It's my personal favorite so obviously I think it is the greatest hip-hop album ever, but no it is no where near the consensus GOAT hip-hop album. Dudes downplay it like crazy though, the cd is an absolute classic..incredible lyrics, beats, so vivid and cohesive. D'evils is one of the greatest songs ever made, Regrets, Can I Live, 22 Two's, Friend or Foe…come on anyone hating on this album loses credibility, you don't have to believe it's the GOAT hip-hop album, but blind hatred or saying it's not a classic or that it's revisionist history to consider it one is absolutely ridiculous and makes your opinion instantly less valid. People say that it wasn't considered classic when it dropped, to me that only strengthens the argument in favor of it's classic status because a classic stands the test of time, and takes time to truly and fully be appreciated.

Its a great album as is the predictable Illmatic responses. But no one on is gonna convince me that either of those albums have aged as well as Hell on Earth or any of the first batch of Wu releases (solo and group).

Btw the way consensus means majority opinion. Jay's braggin ass only just convinced people its a classic.

Hell on Earth is on another level musically then any album Nas or Jay-Z ever put out.

It's not even close.

It is, and it sounds just as fresh in 2014 as it did back then. The question is though can you consider something the GOAT if you could name at least 20 albums you've listened to more? Serious question.

Its like I'm actually watching Shawshank Redemption now and appreciate it as one of the GOAT films (got the storyline, plot twist etc) but Ive seen this shiit like 2 times compared to other I've seen like 20 times.
