Breh, this shyt comes from a real place, 'cause The me 10-15 years ago would have straight up ran the fade to defend Op's statement had Rockstar's whole business model not depreciated into making their money through selling digital currency, similar to how Fifa makes bank off them trade pack bullshyt without changing nary a character model, animation or mechanic besides the obvious roster changes.

Rockstar got way too comfortable with that shyt and now they don't wanna do anything else, even though the market is SO, fukkING, RIPE for the type of games they made in the past, especially with Brick and Mortar stores being made an alternative as opposed to the only option in terms of selling videogames. Even though America's social climate right now is an unapologetic yet all inclusive melange of political correctness gone mad, there is little to no reason Rockstar can't make a game like say, Manhunt, put some gory polish on it and have it make yet another indelible mark on the industry like they did with the first 1 and a half Manhunt games (The second one got butchered so that it could get an M rating as opposed to the dreaded AO rating which would have deemed it ineligible to be sold in B&M Stores which at the time would have made it damn near impossible to sell and market) which were pretty nice and should have only gotten better as the technology and culture progressed to allow such mature content.

What's even worse about current Rockstar right now is the fact that they aren't capable of making funny or compelling ingame lore to form the foundation of said games, with GTA 5 and Max Payne 3 being prime examples of this shyt compared to their predecessors (Max Payne 1 and 2 were made and written by Sam Lake and his Finnish team at Remedy and the GTA series up until 5 was written by Leslie Benzies If I'm not mistaken) and that definitely hurts the brand. While GTA 4 got pretty annoying with the woe is me Nico Bellic character (I liked him, but let's be real, he moaned a great fukking deal.) while having shyt musical selection compared to previous games (San Andreas/Vice City need awards for having GOAT tier licencing and content created) the story was properly fleshed out and the DLC that came with it tied it off EXPERTLY so most all was forgiven. Plus with each DLC pack, they added new music, guns, mechanics, and basically made a dead world come to life in a sense, while giving some sort of closure the fans wanted to the Saga of all three characters involved.

Fast forward to GTA 5 now and what do you got? shyt characters. shyt music. The commentary is more annoying than funny. The activities, while plentiful, never really hooked anyone's interest past a few months and the one shining feature which they failed to flesh out in both the in game and online representations, the heists, were woefully inadequate (especially for the fomer) and would have pushed such a lackluster game forward as a worthwhile experience as opposed to just being a GTA game with a GTA type budget. And with their failure to implement heists at the height of GTA Online's popularity reeks of the same bullshyt they did and are prolly gonna do with RDR2 Online, which is neglect it's development at thier leisure, while collecting bank.

Why the fukk would anyone want to play a Cowboy game where you can't make gangs, gamble and bar brawl with online patrons (I think they finally put in poker since the beta finished) or actively hunt the ones that insist on being griefers and kill everyone in sight? Rockstar does not give as much of a fukk about their franchises with the sales coming from Micro-transactions and that shyt shows and will affect the way they move from here on out. We might get another iteration of one of their old IP's (Bully was teased at having a sequel and I'd honestly flip if they decided to release a Manhunt with an AO raiting but that's wishful thinking) but for now, this is who they are and what they are gonna be.

They up there, they've worked pretty hard for their spot too. I wouldn't say the best tho. I don't think they revolutionized the industry like Nintendo has. Most of what Nintendo does becomes industry standard, just look @ your controller. Rockstar been dope af tho. They always we're unique and creative under their crass shell. I like the way they're putting games together nowadays. GTA5 and RDR2 are like simulators for the lifestyles their characters display in their titles
