The fact that you can say Stillmatic and people know exactly what you are talking about and start debating the classic status of individual album cuts shows that the album is classic.

A classic doesn't have to be a masterpiece. Not every classic is classic for the same reasons. Some albums are classic for being stellar, some are classic for impact, some are classic for what they symbolize for the artist, some are classic for all if the above. There are plenty of albums I don't like but I still can't deny they are classic albums.

Having said that, Stillmatic to me is a 5 mic album, it's one of my favorites of all time. I love that album and still throw it in rotation now and again. I wouldn't be mad if someone else doesn't like the album but denying its classic status is foolish to me. It is easily a classic album

The Flyest is one of my favorite songs on Stillmatic... love the laid back smooth vibe of the record... and of course the picture it paints in my mind.

This album raised me. So to me its a classic.

I was 11 when it dropped, and it changed my outlook on life, and the type of music I fukked with. I had to go back and listen to Illmatic, It Was Written, and his other shyt.
They played the Stillmatic Intro on the radio, then I went and copped it immediately.
I was more of a Hov fan before this, but this changed the game.

I remember the debates that fall in in school about what was the best album, Stillmatic, Blueprint or Great Depression.
I was a year older when it dropped and I think the nostalgia clouds people's minds. I wasn't a Jay-Z fan when this dropped just because of my older cousin and when Ether dropped and this album dropped, I felt validated. It was probably the precursor to my "conscious" phase. But it signifies the reemergence of Nas more so than anything else. It has some of his best work, and it made me think, and also changed how I listened to music. But then I grew up and when I was able to sit back and not be prejudicial towards certain music, I was able to objectively point out some of the album's flaws. It has about 3 songs that are just okay (and one in my country that I never play). I can't call it a classic, but it definitely changed me as a hip hop fan so in that regard it was a personal classic. It's a dope album, a 4.5 mic album on it's best day but I can't give it that distinction. None of us were debating the Great Depression tho :mjpls:

Smokin is corny. Flyest is good.

The thing about stillmatic is that you have to cut four songs (smokin, my country, braveheart party, rule). These song are pretty shytty. However the rest of the album is just that good that people can look past them. What I wouldn't give for one verse this year as strong as stillmatic intro. :damn:
