It depends on how many rooms you watch HD content in.

If you only have 1 TV and only watch stuff in 1 room, you can find 1 HD box and cable for a decent price. The problem is when you have to add on the additional box fees for more than 1 room. I have 3 HDTVs, and I honestly use them all pretty much daily.

Living Room
Mancave
Bedroom

For example, with Comcast, last time I got a quote for cable from them, I think for DVRs and HD, or even just HD, I'd have to pay like 7 or 10 bucks per box depending on which one I got on top of whatever my bill is.

That's an extra 21 to 30 bucks in my case just for HD content. That's what annoys me the most about some of these cable companies and ISPs. So I stream everything, and have an antennae for local broadcasts.

see this is where the problem lies. I am paying like $175 a month for cable/internet. technically, I have the phone service also, but I never hooked the equipment up, cuz I didn't want it in the first place. I just took it cuz the bundle was cheaper than just cable and internet. and I have HBO thrown in for 6 months.

also, I have 5 cable boxes in my crib. back in the day, when I first got cable in the early 2000's, I remember cable wasn't that expensive. cuz they didn't force you to have a cable box to watch the 50 or so regular standard cable channels. but then a few years ago, they made it mandatory to have a box to watch any channels, and you can't see jack shyt without a box, which really pissed me off.

these days, with comcast, you can't even watch ur local channels if you don't have a box. and you used to be able to do that before. but having all those cable boxes is what fukks you over cuz you gotta pay the rental for them. also, I don't even have DVR and shyt. another thing, is my job used to subsidize these cost cuz they were paying for my internet service, but they cut that shyt out last august which sucks.

now, if I was a single man living solo, I could easily live without cable. I know how to download and stream all my content. but with 3 other people in the house who all wanna watch their own shyt, all that downloading goes out the window as I'm not gonna be the one responsible for getting content for all these folks.

Breh, HBO is the least of my concern. I hear you, but I only watch espn and a&e. My wife and kids are the problem. I can stream anything at any time (xbmc, vipbox) and be cool but they gotta have "convenience"

EXACT same boat I'm in.

A Roku or Amazon Fire Tv sounds like some shyt you need then, something that has easy to navigate menus that will keep your wife and kids happy.

I have a Roku 3, but going to get an Android Box since you can load HDCinema and Showbox + Kodi on them.

Good look, but the channels I need are VH1, OWN, DISNEY XD, NICK, and SPROUT. Unfortunately no streaming service has all of these. Not even a combination of services has these

Disney XD is on Sling, also just about everything you'd want from VH1 is available on Showbox, and I'm sure Mobdro has a lot of the channels you can't find legally :lolbron:

Nah, they don't have to have it, it's not a necessity and you need to explain how much money you're blowing on cable breh. You said you paid $175 a month, in just 5 years that adds up to $10,500 on cable B, you're basically paying for an economy class car every 5 years just to keep some shyt you don't really need :francis:

What are yall using for Live Sports? NFL, College Football, NBA, etc...? Is it good quality and dependable? Also are there simple options out there for recording live streams of games?

I'm looking at these 2 Verizon packages right now, I'm about to throw Direct TV in the bushes.

1. Fios 50megs, Local channels in HD, HBO & Showtime. (2-year agreement) $50 in year 1, $70 in year 2.

2. Fios 25megs, Select Tier Channels (A&E, AMC, BET, TBS, USA, CNN, DIS, BBC, NICK, VH1, Cartoon Network) No TNT & No ESPN $65 for 2 Years.

I pay $53 for internet now and $120 for Direct TV:francis:

All I watch is Martin & Family Feud & Sports. I DVR mad shyt, but I can easily just download it.

I use ballstreams for the NBA (paid $90 for 2 full seasons), quality is HD, also use WATCHESPN app since my parents have that I can get their login. I'll watch the NBA finals on local over the air TV.

Everything else I watch are streams, or from Genesis, Showbox, HDcinema, 1channel, all HD quality stuff. There are some android set top boxes that have HDMI inputs so you can record to them.

We just pay for internet, and luckily Time Warner has no caps cause we average around 500gb a month :russ:

Well the internet is a necessity. Need that for work. Can write that off on taxes. But no doubt cable isn't a necessity.

Fam, I'm all about cutting expenses, we saved around $4000 the last two years on just phone and cable bills.

Once you think about how much you're spending in years as opposed to just a monthly rate that shyt hits home. The way we watch TV it's like we DVRed everything.

The way I see it, I'm already saving plenty. No car note. No credit cards, I don't go out to eat much, no student loans. I eat almost all my meals at home. I'm not into clothes shopping crazy vacations or being flashy. On top of that my fuel cost are minuscule cuz I get to work from home. I don't even like taking my car to the car wash cuz I can do it at home for next to nothing. Maybe cable is our one luxury.
