People counted out Microsoft in the past with the original Xbox. You can;t tell if Xbox 1 will be a successful until after Christmas

The PlayStation entertainment branch makes up a much larger part of Sony’s business than does the Xbox division for Microsoft. Accordingly, Sony stock should have much greater potential for upswing if the company can successfully reclaim dominance in the console space. On the other hand, Microsoft still has a huge financial and strategic investment in the Xbox One’s success. A $3 billion investment in the Xbox One’s accelerated processing unit, at least $1 billion in game development and exclusivity contracts, an approximate $1 billion for Xbox related data centers, and a $400 million deal with the NFL represent only a fraction of the money tied up in ensuring the console’s success. Take a look at the company’s $20.49 billion Q3 revenue and it becomes apparent that the failure of the Xbox One to properly launch poses a very real threat to the company.

After the initial flop of the xbox one the xbots will think the are the new Playstation 3 where they will rally toward the end of the gen and captivate the world. This will not happen. It will just be a further decent into Flopville. A place where products go to retire.

I think the bigger issue here is that if the xb1 fails then ms can ta nj e that loss but sony NEEDS to make a big profit off of the ps4. They turned a profit for the first time since 08 and it wasn't because of electronics or games. It was due to selling off real estate and buildings. The electronics division was running at a loss of like 800million. They make a ton off of movies and music but it doesn't cover the losses of their electronics division. Sony is in bad shape and that's why they NEED the xbox to fail. They can't afford to just compete and they are showing it, they have a lot riding on this gen. Ms is pretty much approaching this as a company that's making consoles for fun. If the xb1 fails, oh well...
