Aside from the internet and the demographics it touches consistently I don't think anybody really cares or is even listening. It's starting to remind me of the Pokemon card collecting craze. It was huge for the kids participating and it was newsworthy for the craze it created....but it didn't matter. I feel like we're just rooting for random winners and losers, then there's the filler in between supplied by tweets Instagram photos beefs and performance controversy. Hip hop used to be something i felt playing and going on even when the music went off. Now it just seems like some kind of novel sideshow in pop culture.
The discussions and debates try to lend it some weight and give it back some sense of reality but it feels like a delusion now. I look at some of these threads and when before I felt the need to express my point of view I just digress. I know in and few days the same exact argument will resurface as a spinoff.
I still enjoy the music. This doesn't have anything to do with how I feel about the quality of artists or the music created. It just dawned on me that it's importance to anything valid is disconnected. Yes this is entertainment but it used to be anchored to a legitimate source. It had a quality about it that drew you in. I used to sit down and think about certain records and verses without them playing. I didn't have to be entertained and hooked up to something to be involved with it. Now we're being trained to focus on the melodrama constantly and respect that as apart of what makes it real. We're the only genre that does it this way. Pop rock and country do not do this to the extent we do. It's become a cheap experience. Nobody cares about this shyt. Not even the people who make it.
