it's probably because the actual "culture" of hip hop has been majorly dead for a long ass time... it seems only cats who grew up and listened to 80's & 90's hip hop still care about the culture nowadays because its been so commercialized now. you could see piece by piece of the culture become more and more profitable, mimicked, commercialized, sold, saturated & thrown in the bushes... sure u get a few pockets of it here and there but hell even look at all the new age fake DJ's who hook up a laptop to a PA in the club and call themselves DJ's but can't mix, spin or battle live. you have fake everything now... rappers faking it in hopes they make it, gang members & drug dealers abusing the negative promotional aspects of the culture in order to clean dirty money with a fake record label... nikkas ain't even real MC's anymore always talking about they're just "hustlers"...

the culture is dead because the culture was infiltrated with groups of people who didn't have respect for the culture and used and abused it & are still doing it...

Ok I read all the replies I get it you asking do rap have an impact on ppl like it used to (BIG and PAC) and yea it do to the high school kids. There was some shyt on fox5news couple months ago bout how everyone rocking fake tom ford cuz of jay z and how mad ppl buy fake clothes to dress like they fav rapper. Only a few ppl influence me still Wayne and gunit that's it pretty much if there's a hot song out I still listen but these new rappers all fake as fukk. Even weeZy is not really a influence no more but he had a big impact on me when he was on his shyt. 50 and gunit I been listening since Power of a dollar I fux with them heavy no homo. But I will listen to every song they put out every video and read every article bout them and I guess weezy too. Other than that this rap game trash these nikkas are too fake they don't represent the street. Gunit is 100% reflection of what the streets of NY is. Not how 50 talk in interviews with the aggressive content and the actual this but how he talk on da mp3s lemme make dat clear.

meh, never really got involved in record sales stuff that folks love to count or was that heavily involved in stuff outside of caring about music. i dont watch rappers interview much unless it a few breakfast club joints, not really up on the latest rap gossip either. all this top about rap culture and things, i could not give 1 shiit about. but i still love rap music, love hearing dope music from my fav/new artists

I'm subscribed to over one hundred youtube hip hop channels and what i've noticed recently is;
A) The amount of content is decreasing rapidly.
and
B) What is considered Hip Hop is nothing but general entertainment.

Alot of channels don't even update that often anymore and the amount of views for the content they do have is decreasing. Then you have places that was once devoted soley to Hip Hop getting into everything. Sway in the morning will interview anyone even though Shade45 is suppose to be a Hip Hop station. The Breakfast Club is the same, Hot 97 Morning show, Thisis50 etc. I'm not singling them out, I'm just naming a few well known ones. You could be a comedian, actor, country singer, boxer, it don't matter no more on a Hip Hop platform. The same goes for the websites. Vladtv, WorldstarHipHop, Forbezdvd.com all call themselves Hp Hop sites but the majority of their content isn't even Hip Hop. Again, I'm not singling them out either. The same for message boards and social network. You are bound to see discussions on that witch Beyonce, Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus etc. None of which is Hip Hop but no one really cares anymore, it's accepted..........

One of the main reasons rap music became bland because it's entirely too much of it

Mixtapes (especially free mixtapes) have destroyed the game

It is the #1 reason record sales have plummeted

There is entirely too much music out there along with the fact everybody wanna be a rapper nowadays

Rap music didn't become stale until mixtapes became free and everybody decided to rap

If everybody's a star, who are gonna be the fans?

Rap music was a lot better when u just had a few verses here and there, maybe a track or 2 from a new artist then had to wait till their album to hear a lot of them

And with established artists that were dope, you got an album from them maybe once a year if u were lucky

Music was more quality over quantity back then and it was a lot more appreciated

Notice how the "dead" music genre is the main one that specializes in free music?

Every genre gets illegally downloaded but it's hip hop that's full of artists that think it's a good idea to give away entire projects for free
