http://dimemag.com/2013/11/5-interesting-stats-nbas-first-week/2/ they actually keep stats on that breh just asking a question if dwight had 26 boards and 9 of them are uncontested how high up on the stat sheet would you look at that for having a good game

"Howard is such a presence in the paint with a notoriety for rebounding that it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he’s gaining so many uncontested rebounds, and so few contested, on account of the reluctance of opponents to contest."

The simple answer is no and you haven't really made the case that anyone overrates it.

A pg averaging less than 2 turnovers a game>>>>>> a nikka that averages 10 rebounds a game

So Steve Blake > Kevin Love

Team rebounding isn't overrated but individual rebounding is overrated, unless you are Kevin Love, The Worm, KG or someone like that. Someone like Lebron getting more rebounds than Kobe is a product of size/ being closer to the basket than some innate advantage in skillset.

Single game rebound stats are probably overrated just because so much depends on opportunities and random bounces....

...but long term, no, the stat probably isn't overrated. Like every other stat ever in every other sport, context is always important.

I feel like charges taken is a more important stat than blocks.

taking charges actually changes the possession and draws a foul on the other team plus if you're in the penalty you get two free throws.

swatting a ball into the stands just means they have start over again with less time on the clock.

The issue here is rebounding props/respect vs. scoring props/respect. Are you really trying to suggest that a great rebounder is going to get the same props/respect as a great scorer? Most elite players are gonna catch criticism at some point. However you will see far more questions about a guy when he doesn't score than you will about a guy who doesn't rebound. People respect points more than anything else.

Of course people respect scoring more than rebounding, was that ever a question? :wtf: Assists don't get as much respect as scoring either, but it's not an overrated stat.
