Is the Spence/Crawford fight the most significant Welterweight matchup since Leonard/Hearns?

Is it the biggest fight at 147 in 30 years?

I think Trinidad vs De la Hoya has the best claim. If I recall right it wasn't for undisputed/Unified like Spence/Crawford but the hype, built up and Mexico vs Puerto Rico rivalry. The legendary nights HBO doc :banderas:

And my bias opinion goes to Whitaker vs Chavez: In front of 90,000 are you kidding me?

P.S. Sweet Pea won that shyt I don't care what anyone says :to:

you yourself just mentioned mccrory vs curry - that is the last 147 undisputed unification but was it bigger than a fight like oscar vs tito?
If we are talking just boxing yes. If you want to bring popularity/crossover appeal into it, hell no not even in the same galaxy.

Hell no it's not the most significant. Boxing just doesn't have the same appeal to the casual fans as it did in the past which has to matter. My vote is Tito/Oscar. The fight seemed to happen at the perfect time right in the middle of their primes. Both were huge household names.

Spence/Crawford has it being undisputed going for it but the delay in the fight happening hurts it plus neither have shown to be the type of mainstream names that can attract casuals to really make it as big of an event.

i will say yes cause its for undisputed. mayweather and pacman was more popular and for casuals, but their legacies was already set. this right here is 2 dudes in their prime and undefeated for all the belts. honorable mention to that oscar vs trinidad fight also- that was a big fight legacy wise and for the casuals. still think oscar won though, even though he didn't play it smart late

Floyd vs Pac

Happened too late but so will Bud vs Spence and while Bud vs Spence is also the fight of 2 p4p top 5 fighters, Floyd and Pac were both top 3 still at the time they faced each other and they were the two best of their generation.
