Food, Activity, etc?

Put me on the right track coli, brehs
I'm not gonna lie to you. Chadwick Boseman died the night before my 39th birthday and it fukked me up when I read that he was diagnosed with colon cancer also at 39.

As far as I know there's not much that can be done other than being cognizant of the foods that you eat. But you can do everything perfectly and still end up with it.

I think me turning 40 is heightening my anxiety around health and wellness. I'm in excellent shape physically and I'm not afraid of running to the doctor. Having young kids and needing to be there for them just makes me hyper aware of my mortality.
If I can make until my kids are in their 20s I can't be mad at that.

Go read the book "How Not to Die". Very good breakdown of how to eat healthy in general and the info is backed by scientific studies.

In a nutshell, not smoking, not being obese, getting at least a half hour of exercise a day and eating healthier (more fruits, vegetables and whole grains and less meat) can reduce your risk of diabetes by 90% and colon cancer by 71%

Also they did a study to see how various groups' blood killed cancer cells. Blood from a control group of sedentary people killed 1-2% of cancer cells. Blood from people who exercised "strenuously" (strenuously is defined as 1 hour of exercise consisting of a warm up and 45-50 min of continuous strenuous exercise including calisthenics, swimming laps in the pool, etc) every weekday for 15 years killed 2000% more cancer cells than the control group. And finally, blood from people who exercise strenuously plus ate a plant based diet killed 4000% more cancer cells than the control group.

So basically planning on getting an hour of exercise 5 days a week every week of your life no excuses, plus eating as plant based as possible is a good first step.

I’m pretty sure some form of cancer is inevitable and you’re alive long enough. So the way to prevent it is to just die before you get it I suppose.

Breh, we're similar in many respects.

Boseman's death and how close in age I was when he passed def affected me. As a result, despite cancer not running through my bloodline, I became uber-vigilant regarding my health. Cancer became my biggest fear.

Haven't had a drink this entire year which has been:wow:. Listen to my body moreso too.

I feel like some docs don't listen so I have decided to change doctors. In January, I'll be visiting a black doctor.

Yeah..one of my former coworker was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week of August and was dead by October 8th. Homeboy was only 34 years old.
