i'm black first and a sports fan second. lebron is a great example of what a black athlete should be off the court so he's forever good in my book. cacroaches aren't going to muddy the waters with basketball decisions.

Above the fray.
He’s uniquely polarizing* to your point, he’s not the MOST polarizing

will never be as polarizing as Ali was. No one will be
The race and generation differences between those groups saw them disagreeing on many issues already. Ali's emergence and stances just caused those differences to surface more.

Men who would likely agree on many/most things are split when it comes to Lebron, even siblings.

As far as basketball players go. No. Some can Argue Kobe but Kobe was a more successful player in terms of achievements. Everything LeBron does is broken down at the microscopic level.

I'll go back 100 years and say Jack Johnson. Man broke the color barrier for the heavyweight championship, and the way he kept beating up white men to retain the crown while smiling with his gold teeth to a crowd that wanted to lynch him must've invoked powerful feelings of black excellence. At the same time, he wasn't interested in letting other brothers have a shot at the title nor being a hero to the black community and paraded white women around as trophies.

The ripple effects were felt for over 20 years as it wasn't until Joe Louis came around that another black man got a shot at the title. Louis was persuaded into having little to no personality publicly while never being so much as photographed in public with white women. Johnson himself hated on Louis every chance he could get instead of supporting him. Man left a very complicated yet fascinating legacy

What he stood for was most radical, he's not the most polarizing. It was white folks vs black which was expected.

There was a time when Ali was considered overrated and overhyped prior to his banishment. He was constantly compared to Joe Louis.

white v black is a type of polarizing, and there was a point in which even a lot of black people weren't fans of Ali for some of his stances, his conversion to Islam, and his braggadocios nature
