Only thing about Belize is that I don't think its one of the cheapest places I could go. My overall plan to leave the U.S is to save up to buy a cheap beaten down house, for maybe 20-30K soon. Live in that and save all of my money I'm not spending on rent. Save and gradually fix it up over the course of a decade, maybe 15 years. Then I'll just take my savings and move, and I'll have money coming in from the rent from the house I fixed up.And if they would like I could let a family stay in the house at a reasonable price which would allow them to get ahead.Whether they choose to stay here in babylon or to follow me.

I just came back from Belize
It’s cheaper than America obviously but not that cheap compared to other popular expat destinations
Imported brands are very expensive there for instance
i heard you can live pretty well for a 1000 a month in Belize
what other countries are cheap with decent standards of living
only ones I can think of are the asians ones like thailand
and I dont know if i would want to live there with no people of color

Yea I was thinking of places like Chang Mai
If you want to be around people of color, Belize is a good option especially since you don't need to know Spanish like you would in Colombia or DR
@desjardins how did you like belize overall:jbhmm:

Might be my favorite Caribbean spot so far (been to 6 other countries in Caribbean)
The people are very nice and despite all the safety warnings I felt completely safe. If you are at a beach the water is very clean and it looks like the government takes good care of their natural attractions like water and jungles
Living there for me would be doable if I had steady income, you can get meals from local restaurants for like $3-5
imported items seem very expensive like i was saying. oreo cookies were like $10 out there. $7 apothic red wine here in the states was like $40 USD out there. Stuff like that
This was one of my first foreign trips where i wasn't eating processed shyt like frozen pizzas and chips to save money. It was too expensive. Forced me to eat at local spots
