no. somebody has to make my apple pie at mcdonalds. and if we're guaranteed wealth, food, health or however you're defining "rich," then no one would take those jobs or any job for that matter.

Yup there's no incentive to do much of anything if you're guaranteed to have money off the jump.

There are two questions that must be answered

1) Can we provide a comfortable lifestyle in paradigm of Western society or any society where flood, clothing, shelter, infrastructure, energy are available ALL THE TIME.....WITHOUT DEPLETING "NECESSARY" RESOURCES AND COMPLETELY WRECKING THE ENVIRONMENT THEY COME FROM.....so future generations can enjoy them

2)
...................................................................Where are the robots to do the dirty work or even indoor activities...

Depends heavily on your definition of rich. Is rich being able to have a stable support system for your family or doing the Mitt Romney thing and buy your way everywhere in life?

Ofcourse there is enough money on the planet for everyone to be "rich"... But would the economy continue to run productively and efficiently if everyone was rich? No... Would we even survive as a modern society if everyone was rich? No way...

Its not possible... You get rich off of resources and surplus labor... Our world is currently shrinking in the amount of resources it has... If everyone was rich we would run out of resources very quickly... This includes humans(labor)... There would literally be no point to being rich if everyone was rich...

This question is really stupid when you really think about it...

Tell me why sir.

You shouldnt believe any statement that implies that someone is inherently better then you to begin with. By even thinking that, you are both exalting them and subjugating yourself.

Look at it like a poker tournament..........if one person starts out with a massive chip lead over the other players, do you agree that that person has an advantage over the other players? Does this starting advantage mean that they are a better player then the others at the table? fukk no. You should know that it doesnt take a great player to amass a chip lead.

I'll say this, a good player will better be able to use their chip lead to its full potential and, with their abilities and chip lead together, will probably dominate the tournament. But just as surely alot of good players will be elimanted from the torunmanet because of their starting disadvantage......

Start the game over where everyone has an equal amount of chips and Im sure the resultes would be different.

Same with life

It's really that simple..........

I didn't say that because I believe someone is better than me though. I honestly believe that I would still have my money or more if money were to be equally distributed (that is simply based on the way I handle my money now...the fact that I haven't worked in almost 2 years, live on a graduate stipend, and I am still better off than most people simply because I knew what to do with my money when I had a salaried job). I made that statement based on the fact that we are very consumeristic society. Most people who have never had money often blow it on things that depreciate when they come into lump sums (see any program about lottery winners). That is why I made that statement.

As far as poker, I've noticed that even if someone wins every now and then, the same people typically end up at the final table. It's not about being inherently better, but knowledge, skill, and certain other characteristics will consistently give you great results.

Not necessarily true. As far as ending up at the final table as a metaphor, this kind of skews the reality of economic outcomes. The most skilled people are not at the "final table", which I presume is high economic status, and this is due to nepotism and similar ascriptive hierarchical mechanisms which are in place in any given society. So while the final table may have some similar faces, and we may presume that they have knowledge and skill, but due to these overwhelming factors, we may never know who was most qualified to be at that table.

As far as the "metaphor", I agree that we are not truly a meritocratic society, but in this case I was literally talking about poker when I talked about the final table (we play together every week). However, I would still tell anyone that knowledge and skills will give them consistently good results (people with in internal locus of control generally do better than those with an external locus of control).
