Is there really a difference between Ol' Dirty's rap-singing and Young Thug's rap-singing?

you havent been the same since @Billy Ocean took your soul few years ago.. been reduced to begging for porn links in JBO, and playing side-bytch to a troll poster.. :wow:

not only that.. you've yet to post a receipt of said poster pretending to be Black.. nor, have you proven to even be Black yourself.. :mjpls:

Let's keep it 100 and really hurt feelings, ODB was terrible at rapping, but it was just so bad it was actually good :pachaha:

His best verses were on 36 Chambers
His best (most of them) were GZA's.

The nikka wasn't just utilizing the tents, he lived in them shyts.

:francis:
I don't even rank Dirty as an MC or by MC standards. IMO he was a showman and entertainer like Doug E. Fresh. And a legendary one :salute:

Young Thug is just an adroginous hack

ODB was a much bigger personality than musician. His music was fun but objectively wasn't hitting for much. None of these NY cats are the forefather to Thug. None.

Thug told us his fathers:

Wayne
Future
Boosie
Biggavel
3 stacks
Wyclef
Rick James
Prince

And by product of those names, RnB, blues, and jazz singers.

ODB aint a better artist nor is he a forefather to Thug's style, most of which Thug has told us himself.

There are better names to list than ODB but oldhead NY centric bias is a hilarious thing.

its not the same at all :pachaha:

Thug layers dozens of melodies and "voices" in one track while ODB was one dimensional when attempting to "sing."

It's the same but you're correct, thugger's version is more complex. He's like a complex jazz musician in the way he does it. Both are/were doing what louis armstrong pioneered, vocally

Vazan: They played me “Protect Ya Neck” and it was very hard and incredible and it never stopped hitting you, you know? It was line after line, verse after verse, but when it got to ODB and it got to Method Man, it was like, “Wow, who are these guys?” The first time you heard ODB, it was amazing; it was like the Louis Armstrong of hip-hop with so much character in his voice, like he’s telling a story. ODB took you there into the text of his lyrics like a good storyteller, but also like a real actor.

I don't rank him as an MC either, but the comparison was about technique, isn't Thug basically a newer version of ODB.

No, he's not

Lil B would be a better comparison than someone who is actually rappin at a decent clip when he's not completely unintelligible. I wasn't much of a fan of ODB individually when he was out so the inevitable "how dare you's" have to be side stepped for clarity.

While I get what people are getting at, ODB was not singular in that style nor was he the best.

Boosie has a blue-sy voice and Thug has stated the influence himself.....so why not credit him?

Wayne, 3 stacks, Wyclef......all 90s rappers with the bluesy/jazz influences and Thug collaborators but we gone attempt to credit ODB because he from NYC?

id already said earlier, Wayne is the forefather of Young Thug.. and, damn near 60% of these newer rappers that came out the last 10yrs..

ODB was/is a random comparison..

I think because ODB made that a personal style while Wylcef only did it as an imitation of Louis in 1 song. If you combine that with the popularity of Wutang, that would explain why people point back to ODB as a first in hiphop with that style. Wayne for sure is the most direct influence on Thugger's style.

Anyway we got on the topic of how Young Thug really is doing the rap-singing thing Ol' Dirty use to do.
Now I know some nikkas gon be like :stopitslime: but really ain't Thug basically doing the same shyt Dirty did? :patrice:
The difference is substance

I think its important to note that Thug is from the South.

Its a reason Southern rappers are more prone to have the jazz/bluesy style whether it be Kodak, Thug, Wayne or Boosie. The convo has to be bigger than just rap.

Hard to give credit to ODB for a Southern artist style because he was a Northerner taking on Southern style....
