The multiplication I understand. The addition/subtraction is still a little confusing but I get it and I will practice it. My daughter is probably going to learn this new way at some point so it doesn't hurt to know.

It's really not that difficult, just time-consuming.

I can see it being an issue for kids who were like myself in school and preferred to do things in their head rather than show their work.

They'll get the right answer, but since they didn't write down all the steps, they get no credit.......which is stupid.

you just add random numbers until it equals up to the amount youre subtracting from. all those random numbers you used can just be added up seperately to create the difference between them, which is the answer

While it works with random numbers, the method is not to just use random numbers. It's easier to add 5s, 10s, 100s, etc....the numbers chosen are meant to take advantage of that fact.

This mathematical process is mind blowing, I always wondered how things were calculated when the pyramids were built & what not.

I just go full :snoop: when I see someone do some convoluted way to complete a simple math problem.
For a few of the kids I taught, I would ask them to multiply two two-digit numbers, then they'd get to work drawing this bullshyt:

:dahell: nikka this ain't art class! Do it properly :birdman:

They could learn all this when they get the basics down and are interested in math theory, but not as an intoduction. It's all about practice and repitition till you find useful patterns, not gimmicks

:ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh::ohhh: I think i got it

so 32-12=20

new math is

12+7=19
19+1=20
20+12=32

add 7+1+12 = 20 :mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::mindblown::heh::heh::heh::heh:
