Dam man The Source dropped the ball crazy. They could’ve still been relevant today and had a media empire if they had integrity at the top level. They were the literal bible of hip hop and had the power to put artists on. I guess that model was rife for corruption due to that.
They would be dead by now either way. They just accelerated it.

Fortunate enough to still have a lot of Source, XXL, Smooth, etc mags. Wish I had more pre-97 ones though. I may have like 2 Murder Dog mags. I remember bringing those to school on bus rides and people were

Used to love the Source. I had a subscription for years. First issue I had got was early 94 when they introduced each member of the Wu. My cousin showed it to me so I had to get it. A couple months later they gave Illmatic five mics. I had heard It Ain’t Hard to Tell and thought it was cool. Wasn’t really up on Live at the BBQ cuz I was only 12 so I wasn’t to familiar with him yet. Copped the tape just off the strength of the review becuz they hardly ever gave five mics. I did the with sane thing with Kast first album that got 4 1/2

And I gotta agree with OP. That was my favorite cover and prolly the dopest issue. They ranked the 50 best songs, MCs and groups. Classic issue. Crazy thinking back on some of the names they had top 10 back then
