Sadly, the NBA is trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, the casual fans. No more hard nose defense, lack of offensive rebounds, everyone on every position shooting 3s, guards able to drive the lane easily and roam free, wide open shots, etc. I remember at the time in they were talking about the 2005 NBA Finals betw the Spurs and the Pistons as "boring". That's when I knew the downfall would begin

I remember that talk even started after the 94 Finals, then yeah came back around that time

It makes sense though. These days there's stretch 4's and 5's. Why not let the playmaker get the rebound so he can push the floor while the big guys can get set. It's more entertaining. Ya'll wanna watch half court offenses all day but nowadays the game is way more fast paced. It's all about transition offense.
