Isn't there enough history for there to be a "classic rap" radio station by now?

Tron beat me to it. KDay is exactly what your looking for. I can't even believe its real. Sad part is I think some Vietnamese people bought the station :to:

Assuming terrestrial radio survives...pretty much all "urban contemporary" formatted stations will become pretty much that in a decade or so...basically the stations that play the "old school" rnb and soul that our parents listen to will make the transition towards more 80's/90's hip hop and rnb (new jack swing and the like)...it's already happening...and as we get :flabbynsick: we'll start to listening to them...and the current "home of hip hop and rnb Hot SuchAndSuch.7 The Beat" formatted stations will be the domain of our kids

I always felt there should be..its a untapped market..I mean obviously u have cats not feeling the current crop of rappers...I know satelite and internet have statik s like that but there should be one that is terrestrial. ..like it make no sense that ny has two hip hop station with identical playlist..shows how messed up black radii is though..

it's ridiculous. :mindblown: Power will put on one older song from the past 10 years like once an hour, but that's it. No difference at all.

and :wow: at other places already having on this but not NY. we lost.

I have Sirius and I listen to backspin occasionally. I have two things to say about it:

1. When they start playing stuff like Funky 4 +1 more, and other stuff that came out in the EARLY days I usually change the station. I can't get into that stuff.

2. It's crazy how artists like DMX, Outkast, and Dr. Dre are played on an old school station. I'm getting old

This is my issue too... Backspin goes too far back for me, where they play a lot of stuff that's just too old for me to get into. Anything from the 90's they play is great, I wish there would be a 90's rap station on Sirius/XM, there's certainly enough great material for them to make a station dedicated to 90's.

I have all the classics on my iphone, but for some reason I get much more hyped when the same song comes on Backspin, lol.

I made this thread a year ago and a lot of people scoffed at me.

there are a few stations around the country, like that KDAY jawn.

somebody put me down with a station out of florida that just plays '90s r&b. I guess its still around. I made a thread about it:
http://www.the-coli.com/locker-room...x-linking-up-arguably-goat-radio-station.html

edit: im not sure if its this station:
WMBX HD 102.3 FM West Palm Beach Radio Online - if this is the station, it looks like they changed their format.
or this one:
Radio.com - Listen to the Best of Online Radio for Free

I think that's part of the problem.

theres definitely a huge market for it, but I can understand if people who are interested in investing but not in touch with whats going on like that, are reluctant to starting a station like this. because generally speaking theres a noticeable lack of respect for hip-hop history. as you can see, we already have people that basically want it to be just a '90s station. and then theyre chopping it down to mid-late '90s.

a throwback station based on just a 5-6 year period? that's crazy.
