Isn't there enough history for there to be a "classic rap" radio station by now?

I have Sirius and I listen to backspin occasionally. I have two things to say about it:

1. When they start playing stuff like Funky 4 +1 more, and other stuff that came out in the EARLY days I usually change the station. I can't get into that stuff.

2. It's crazy how artists like DMX, Outkast, and Dr. Dre are played on an old school station. I'm getting old

This is my issue too... Backspin goes too far back for me, where they play a lot of stuff that's just too old for me to get into. Anything from the 90's they play is great, I wish there would be a 90's rap station on Sirius/XM, there's certainly enough great material for them to make a station dedicated to 90's.

I have all the classics on my iphone, but for some reason I get much more hyped when the same song comes on Backspin, lol.

pretty much all the throwback stations span at least 2-3 decades.

theres not gonna be a str8 '90s station on FM radio. and if there actually is one, it definitely wont be tied down to just one genre. that's insane.

dudes don't respect history. hip-hop has been around for 40 years now. one of the reasons why we don't have a classic station is because our own fans don't respect the art.

Not enough black folk give a damn about culture. Too obsessed with what's hot for the fleeting moment. No real power to do a damn thing. It's why we let the communities get brainwshed by these playlists that dumb us down. No History or variety, just Drake, Rihanna, Niki Minaj, Beyonce, and a few other folks.


White folks know from the 60's, 70's, 80's and up in regards to rock. We know 2012 and up. It's why everything from 5 yrs ago is old school.

Not enough folks willing to step up either. Remember a few months ago when folks were actually pressing Ebro( Hot 97 program director) and let him talk in circles explaining the reasons why. Basically folks are dumb and only wanna hear songs that have been embedded in their brains 7 times an hour.

Yeah, it always bothered me that there are a gazillion classic rock/country stations yet the only time I can catch a throwback rap station is on saturday nights. When my Ipod is dead or I have no CDs, I'd rather turn the radio off than listen to that shyt.

It's funny that you mention this, in DC, WPGC has an old school segment on Sunday Nights from 7-11PM. They play nothing but classic hip hop & R&B. No mix or anything, just straight tracks. I don't listen much to radio anymore, but I make sure to tune in then. I think within a few years PGC will either have an HD Radio subset just for old school jams, or they might become the first ever major station to flip their playlist to all old school. Another great thing PGC does during the summer is dedicate the ENTIRE weekend sometimes to old school jams. Like this weekend for example, they are going to play mostly classic stuff (with the new crap from time to time of course).

That would focus mainly on rap up to the mid to late 90s?

By the mid 90s, we had classic rock stations (playing mostly mid 60s - late 70s) popping up all over the place, so going by that timeframe, we should be due?

no this will not feasible for today's climate...most record labels and mainstream media have a hidden agenda to phase out old school hip hop for a while in efforts to rewrite history...pretty much like American history was rewritten....just look at how that silly 'Fuse' channel is feeding hip hop to the youth with their "greatest of all time" countdowns without including anything pre 2000....

yea that's the other problem.

part of me feels that a channel like this is not wanted on the radio because it would neutralize the current stations as well as the hidden agendas.

and yes, the fuse channel chit is terrible. I cant believe some of the chit that they put on there.
