Issa Rae says she doesn’t feels successful right now. Did the industry switch up on black content?

But the acting was mediocre at best and the show dragged.
I’ve been saying for years the whole cast should’ve been dropped

Teyonah Parris could’ve been the lead
Logan Browning or Ashley Jenkins could’ve played Molly

Woody McClain could’ve played the bf

Whole show was a cast of undesirables :scust:

I mean nobody wants to go backwards if they don't have to. HBO to Youtube is definitely going backwards

Same thing for TVOne or Bounce. Folks see the HBO, Netflix, FX, Apple as being more "legitimate." Can't say I'm not the same, I barely check for STARZ shows lol

Her options are limited unless she wants to get cast in roles where she plays Tiffany Haddish type characters that are loud and annoying.

You aren’t going to see her getting stronger opportunities and clearly she’s not built for theater, which she likely looks down on.

Racism, losing influence due to “anti-woke”, people not having disposable income to support, etc.

A lot of the novelty is gone. Even “inventing a new lane” won’t hit the same like it did the last few decades.

Additionally, things “when they were good” had so little actual value and substance that when times got bad most people saw most of that shyt as nothing but hot air at the end of the day.

Celebrityism during Covid got exposed for being overall useless when it comes to the grand scheme.

Trend is dead. A decade plus of black woman girl boss shows. Or doing lazy “what if that predominantly white show/movie had black people” race swaps.

They trivialized identity for trendy niche shows that barely anyone watched. Now the cultural zeitgeist has moved on and these creators are still pitching the same shyt. What if you remade Fatal Attraction but with black people! What if you remade Wall Street as a show with a black woman lead! Over and over.

These shows also condescended to white people or relied on white guilt marketing via trendy white media outlets. That shyt is dead now too. The result is a decade plus of forgettable shyt.

Shows like abbot elementary are doing well and it seems they don’t need to throw obvious things in your face.

Issa came in during an era where a lot of black millennials and black creators in general. Projects were getting green lighted and that era is over. At least for some…that was the era of Lena Waithe, Donald Glover, Jordan Peele, Rryan Coogler, etc. And projects like Dear White People, Lovecraft Country, Chewing Gum, She Got To Have It, basically every “new black” show/movie lol. After the writers strike, the anti woke movement, and AI. A lot of wells are running dry if you can’t adapt.
Yet somehow Tyler Perry has been and is still eating through all of this. Looks like bruh playing the long game with what he was putting out there was the right move.

When will Black creators realize that they don’t need Hollywood to be successful?

This ain’t 1990. You can produce and put out movies on your own, and keep most of the money for yourself.
Tubi is like the number 1 place to drop shyt now for aspiring filmmakers yet people want it gone. We will never find a good place started by somebody black mostly because of haters

I think she has a lot of talent

At the same time i think a lot of these actors/actresses who made it onto the big screen, feel like they shouldn’t have to go the independent route and should stay in those Hollywood big name circles and be able to have warner brothers/ HBO/Starz/ etc etc backing

I never been around the crowd and speaking from afar, but Hollywood right now with all these streaming platforms doesn’t want to allocate money into the same type of black films or shows

Because hell Tubi / BET already doing the same shyt

The reason starz axe those power shows was because of the budget they added on each year to produce it and their return on investment dried up

I feel like there is a shift happening to where now things are starting to look up better for the Black community and certain shyt on TV/movies and music is making a lot of Black folks say that we need some new shyt and start all over from scratch.

We are in the midst of a win win situation:respect:
