Issa Rae says she doesn’t feels successful right now. Did the industry switch up on black content?

Yes, because a lot of people on this board don’t have standards and goals and can’t understand someone striving for something that isn’t just a middling existence
lets not do that.

The most successful content has the lowest barrier to entry.

Niche projects are often buoyed by actual money makers but are passion projects studios believe in. The “cool” stuff often doesn’t bring in money like that.

Now add the fact that Issa never had a truly mainstream audience and we’ve heard multiple people talking about the money on that show...

1) bro, shut up, you’ve made multiple threads and have seventy million posts downplaying her. We know Indian men really don’t like black women, no need to keep discussing it

2) secondly, none of this has anything to do with the concept of why she’s not feeling successful, it’s simply no current project on = I’m not doing enough

Stop using black trauma as launching pads for bullshyt movies
Stop acting like black audiences aren’t smart and haven’t lived different lives than big momma fukking up the turkey on Thanksgiving while a nikka puts on a dress to yell Dynomite
Not saying Issa does that but we not gon sit here and act like she puts on all quality projects
From Tyler Perry to that fukking bytch Lena Writhe and that homely hoe who wrote that stupid ass HBCU show co-signed by KeKe Palmer
A real discussion needs to be had on the quality of the bullshyt they feeding us
Children of the 80s/90s shouldn’t be this stagnant in creation when they literally grew up in black renaissance
They should’ve been expounding on those projects that were diverse storytelling
If you make good projects that highlight black people in all walks of life instead of just struggle and torture
Trust people will support you and you wouldn’t need to rely on white studios who are actively telling nikkas
fukk yall we are bending the knee to this administration and going back to them good old Jackie Gleason days

Yep. She didn’t really make “universal” content. TO her detriment in an industry and society that is burned out on “black targeted” media in the mainstream at the moment. This stuff comes in waves.

People thought that moment in the late Obama-early trump years would last forever. It’s gonna be a while before that returns. Especially as things move offline.

Theres no reason she’s not making YouTube content. She came up on that. She had one HBO hit show and thought that would turn her into…what?
Good point. She had a good show but very niche audience. I think there is an appetite for black culture with a universal appeal and it does come in waves; however, most art isn’t being funded because the current power structure is anti arts.

Someone inspired by her works will come up with something new fairly soon like others have said in the thread. The entire world needs new stories and we’re stuck in a world where the majority of people want to live like they did back In The days.

However, like Slim Charles once said “the thing about the old days, is that they the old days”.

You know how people kept saying that the social media people are taking over? Well that’s probably what’s happening now with Issa. I know that’s where she started, but you can’t always rely on that. I’m sure that’s why she went Hollywood. She’s had a good run and she might come out with something good at some point, but I’ll be waiting to see what these entertainers/writers will do in the coming years.. A lot of entertainment from the past few years has been meh. It’ll be interesting to see where this shyt goes. People are more entertained by skits shot on iPhone and shyt

Living single came out damn near 35 years ago and still holds up well and the characters are all diverse and relatively likable/relatable.

Theres a way to be corny about the shyt. And yes, trolling white people doesn’t actually always work.

A lot of people thought they could talk about “white privilege” FOREVER as if that was moving the needle and flaunt bullshyt humanities degrees and “pseudo high level” niche bot discourse to talk down to people who didn’t endorse queer-infused thematic elements or anything not masquerading as insufficiently revolutionary :camby:

The literal purple haired blavity blacks fukked up and Issa Rae is realizing she’s gotta hustle.

I mean for fukks sake, they got Druski and Kevin Hart now. Why should they give Issa Rae money? Two straight black guys with actual edgy comedy not some liberal intersectional feminist.

This is America, people. Read the room.

Quita got her a show that’s definitely going into syndication. She’s won big time

Wow at some of the responses in this thread.

Her content is 'too Black' now.

Y'all worship drill rappers and crashouts but she uses the N word too much.

Oh excessive sex while you goon to pawg threads.

She needs to cater more to white people.

She needs to have babies? Why.

If you want to say she isn't the best actress, fine but the one thing she can do is write.

What positive representation of heterosexual black males has Issa Rae put out via her content?
