Some of these type of people have a need to feel like they are privy to information that nobody else has. It makes them feel intelluctually special and satisfy their ego.
If they are able to rationalize the misinformation or conspiracy in their head, then a whole psychological transformation takes place in which they believe they have superior knowledge and intellect, and everyone else is inferior and its their job to teach the masses. Anyone who challenges their misguided information is automatically the villain. Part of that is a protective shield because accepting that everything they believe is wrong would be psychologically devastating.

I asked “did you look into the case he’s talking about?” She said “no he already explained it for me”
