My 4 year old just started Pre-k this month. Before that, he and my 2 year old were in daycare. That shyt was $250 A WEEK. Every Monday.
Before that, I remember spending G's on Baby formula, diapers, etc. I was so strict on potty training because when we calculated how much money we were spending on BOXES of diapers and baby wipes I said :what:

Then if you want your kids to get proper nutrition and vitamins they need, you can't just buy frozen chicken nuggets, french fries and pizzas. You need organic shyt. Fruits, Veggies, Organic juices. This shyt adds up. I've trained myself to eat one meal a day because most of our money is going into these lil mfs.

Then the clothes and shoes. These kids grow so fast if they eating right. My oldest jumped up 2 shoes sizes this year alone. I said got damn, I just bought these Nikes now they too small. Toddler shoes run anywhere from $60.00 to 90.00 depending where you buying from. We shop online for our shyt so taxes and shipping fees be fukking us up. We like to get their clothes from Target :mjpls: Higher quality. Everybody else get they shyt from Walmart. I don't want my sons walking up in school with the same fit as Daniel and Jamal because we all shopped at the same store :mjpls:

But damn that shyt be expensive. Have 2 kids in back to back years brehs:snoop:

This country wants you to have kids and then practically punishes you for having them. The laws and policies in this country make it so only the rich can afford to raise kids comfortably. Everyone else is going to have a constant struggle just getting the basics met for the household. I don't want to work myself to death just to give this fukking system a few more wage slaves.

Idk, ppl with kids get way more breaks in tax returns and family specials than single and/or childless ppl

That breaks down to $1400/month over 18 years.

It's costs an extra $1400? :patrice: I understand day care expenses and college, but nothing else outside of that.
I pay $1200 a month on just daycare for my both my jits. That’s thru the military which is at a major discount

This is over the course of infancy to age 18 for those that don’t feel like reading :pachaha:
Exactly.

They always throw the 0-18 number out there to freak people out. If you take into account the idea that you’re literally raising a child that you love that is carrying your genetics into the future, it’s not that expensive broken down by the year.

And this number doesn't include the cost of college tuition, which will likely go up.

Plus it doesn't take into consideration local costs of living adjustments, which is relevant for Black folks considering we are concentrated in a handful of metros that generally are also ranked high in COL.

And so that 300k over 18 years for white folks spread out across the country isn't neatly comparable to cats living primarily in NYC, DC, LA, and the Bay where the competition is crazy for those who aspire for their kids to have upper middle class lifestyles and outcomes.

The high costs is part of why DINK aka Dual Income No Kids couples( especially college educated couples) are becoming more prevalent and will likely end up influencing policy and culture in a major way.
It’s not a parent’s responsibility to pay for college
