It really is a shame that Samsung is now going the planned obsolescence route with their phones.

It's the truth. Majority of the people don't even know an SD card is there. It's a dying breed. Get it over it.
go poll your friends. they know what an sd card is. y'all really over here acting like sd cards are some mysterious feature that only nerds know about. get real. sd cards have been around since the inception of mass produced smartphones in 1999 and were a must have for anyone who owned a Digital camera and took their shyt to wal mart to get printed. its not that serious.

Breh, get over it. SD cards are done. LG will soon follow and then what?

"You think you're buying like a Kingston or a SanDisk but you're actually not, and they're extremely poor quality, they're slow, they sometimes just stop working, and it gives people huge number of issues, apps crashing all the time, users losing data, a lot of basically complaints and customer frustration. It's gonna be a while before you finally accept that maybe the reason why it's not performing is because you put in an SD card, right? You're gonna blame the phone, you're gonna blame the manufacturer, you're gonna shout and scream and try to get it fixed, so many different ways until you say, 'Actually, let me just take the SD card out and see what happens.'"

Barra probably would have given the same reasoning if he was still the VP of Google's Android division. Despite many techies' desire to have storage expansion option, all Google Nexus devices bar the Nexus One lack microSD expansion, and Matias Duarte, VP of design, once explained that this is because "in reality it's just confusing for users." Google engineer Dan Morrill also voiced a similar concern on Reddit a while back.

"It is a trend: SD cards will disappear," Barra added. "You should basically not expect SD card slots in any of our flagships."

Google explained years ago why SD cards are :flabbynsick: it allows the device to use ext file systems instead of a mix of ext and FAT. This is faster and safer -- both for the data on the device and the way it's handled, and access to our own personal data. A journalized file system means fewer file errors, and ext preserves file system permissions so random code can't find your pictures or documents folder.

Another benefit is that the host machine (when your device is connected to a computer) can't muck things up and molest the file system, as it doesn't have block-level access to the files. Instead, a proxy FUSE (Filesystem in Userspace) file system is used to mount a psuedo-SD card folder so that your computer can read and write to it via MTP. This means you won't get errors from incorrectly unmounting your phone, and the device still has access to all the data even while plugged into a PC.

Yeah, if this was a couple of years ago. Iphones age just like the other top flagships now.

Umm iPhone 4s from 2011 will have ios9 in 2016. 5year life span!

Android makers leave you high and dry after 18months.

Had android 2010-2012 and felt like smart phones were a pain... till I iPhoned it and actually enjoyed smartphones for the first time.

And I stay abreast and use an android pretty much like extra device with an Xperia t2 ultra....outside of battery life the device is always slow and bogging down. I damn near never worry about apps in the iPhone multitask tray....android just not optimized.

I just want high quality 3rd party apps (companies like Twitter even put out a lower quality app for android, lol) ,phone that doesn't slow down with ease and reliable not to crash emergency situation.
