PE was it when it came to white folks and selling a gang of records(Platinum plus). BDP to a lesser degree. I can't really think of any other Black militant groups with a huge white follwoing that sold a gang of records. Paris and The Coup didn't though they had a nice size fan base.

The thing is most of the pro black rap that was out then was Afrocentric only a few acts were what I would consider militant. I remember the Coup saying they had huge white fan base although they weren't moving units like Cube and PE. I highly doubt Poor Righteous Teachers and C-clan had many whites in their fan base. Many whites will rock with the militant stuff because to them, it's similar to the Punk attitude but:whoa: @ the Afrocentric stuff.

i know this gotta be a thread rehash, so up a previous conversation...but I stumbled across some bootleg local cable music channel and they're playing all his singles in chronological order. True to Tha Game just went off...dude was anti-cac, now he's in shyt like 21 jump street....I'm sure someone is gonna say something about Jews/fakkitry,/apologies etc, but maybe he was just so unapologetically him that they just had to salute his g :ld:

Ice Cube is the greatest music industry / movie industry player of them all .

50 trying, he understands he has to go the tv route.

Did he really crossover tho? I mean dude was making family movies but at the same time making movies that were aimed toward older audiences. All on his own production company. Yall call it crossing over I call it diversifying your brand.

He did the right thing with venturing outside of the rap industry. It's hard to profit and stay at a high level in the rap game. Trends change a lot as well so you can be hot today, but irrelevant tomorrow.

It's easier said in hindsight now but you're completely right. There is no money in this shyt anymore and present day it's clear to see. If you didn't use Hip Hop as a stepping stone to venture out into other areas you're a tool. (Unless you're just truly an artsy artist)

Jay Z barely does features and won't even make appearances in music videos

Nas takes longer breaks between albums, barely tours and is back with Steve Stoute. They've managed to create multiple start ups.

Snoop is a rap icon who clearly doesn't care about his original persona. His last three or four albums felt and sounded like cash grabs. He crossed over into movies, tv shows, celebrity DJing.. Can't tell if he still cares about the music.

50 learned fast and used his success as a stepping stone to create multiple ventures. You can tell his passion isn't music anymore. Even his g unit reunion felt like a quick cash grab to pay debts

Kanye (like Nas) has taken longer and longer between albums. He's clearly gone the route of touring to get show money and give people great live shows but you don't get new Kanye Music the way you did in 05-09.

It is what it is..

The forefathers had tunnel vision. It was rap and only rap. When you see 80% of them now they're doing nostalgia shows. Unless you're KRS-One (KRS, Cube, Dre,) being the clear exceptions

When I saw Kane at Made in America looking flabby my heart was broken

When I saw Rakim at A3C in ATL looking lost and out of place I was heartbroken

Like Nas said "where are they now"

i think it was timing....cube stop rapping about race towards the early 2000s and got into movies and a whole new generation got to see him before as an actor only...then social media came and ppl embraced him was a blockbuster actor and his past just got erased......its funny because the young generation dont understand how much cube was feared...he had america shook in the early 90s....

Hell nah, not me. Cube was that nikka,:myman:

Ice Cube never switched up music wise. He did a militant song with Killer Mike "Put The Pressure On Em". Also remember his single, "Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It". He stilled take that rebellious shyt in his raps in his latest releases. Not as hard nosed as his early stuff, but still militant edge.

What was really crazy was pac was on the verge of crossing over before he died...Now that would have been crazy to see .
He probably would have turned Baby Boy into a Oscar Nominated film
