It seems KRS-ONE is not as high on GOAT lists as he used to be

Nahhhh, not you Fresh, smh. You know skill sets and all the attributes of what makes a nig nasty with it. You think Kris got that? šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø, I don’t see/hear it…never did, even before all that shh surfaced that put holes in his character. He is amazing on stage tho, part of being a great MC is rockin the crowd, I’ll give him that…I’m just talking about bar work tho. He ain’t even in the same class as those 3, imo
Yeah I think he's as great a MC as all of them. For a long time KRS-One was my GOAT.

Only thing they really do better than KRS from a technical standpoint is multi-syllabic rhyming. But KRS had wordplay, delivery, flows, clarity, breath control. Some of those attributes he was better than all of them at, some he was better than a couple of them at.

To me it's like asking if Biggie is as nice Big Pun, Big L and Eminem. Because Biggie ain't really do the razor sharp multi-syllabic rhyme style or the punchlines like them, but to me he excel in other technical areas than them.

Dude was ass after like 97-98 but still would talk like he’s the one

He’s been washed longer than he’s been poppin..but still active..so his ranking definitely gonna take a hit for it

Being real, as much as I think people overrate it, doing multis is arguably the most ā€˜in your face’ trait that learned rap listeners notice when checking for niceness. Think about all the super nice nigs…all the battlers, etc…heavy multis. Biggie does it too, he just plays with it and it’s not as straight forward as a Kiss or AZ, it’s actually harder to do it how Big did. Nas does it like that a lot too. So does Jigga. Etc…

Multis aside tho, I just don’t think KRS can write something like that 1st verse of ā€œFollow the Leaderā€. The imagery, the flow, etc… He just doesn’t have those tools in the toolkit bro. šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø, whatever tho, I hear you, lol, I know madd nigs fk with KRS and probably agree with you. I never heard it.

Time goes by and a new generations tastes are reflected. When I was a kid Public Enemy It takes a Nation was widely hailed as the best rap album ever now you barely hear it mentioned. KRS live show in the 80s and 90s left a huge mark on those who saw him, younger people not so much.
The time will come when Jay, Big, Nas and Pac start falling down these lists too because the people writing these lists weren’t there.

this.

time.

I feel you but that's why I say nikkas can be just as nice but in different ways

I don't think AZ could write a verse like any Redman verse and vice versa but they both equally nice.

I think that most of the greats from the 80s are not rated as highly as they should be.

With Rakim, for whatever reason, it became fashionable at some point to refer to him as the standard bearer for emceeing.
I am convinced that many people who cite Rakim as Top 5 or Top 3 or whatever don't actually know his music and/or like it or appreciate it. They just drop Rakim's name so that they sound knowledgeable. It is analogous to the way that people will drop the names of basketball players from decades ago who they actually know very little about.

Na, Ra has always been the benchmark as far as the who's who in regards to lyric and etc, and it became even more highlighted during his comeback run with the 18th letter

So you think KRS is as nice as Ra and G and BDK? šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø, alright. And you don’t agree with my disgust regarding ā€œ13 and Goodā€? Copy.

Aren’t you the kid that said Lupe is a terrible rapper? šŸ˜‚, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about regarding niceness…or just unable to be objective. Do your thing tho, you gotta know I don’t care, lol, šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™‚ļø
13 And Good is a fictional song where he smashes a teen by accident, almost gets his culo blasted involuntarily and shot. nikkas who use this against KRS weird me out. That's a world away from the Rock And Roll cacs who make songs glorifying and celebrting hitting underaged girls. 13 And Good made me think twice before talking to some young looking broads.

He’s dope and I don’t have issues with him being on goat list but I always thought he was only ok lyrically, like don’t get me wrong it’s a dope song but how is ā€œde di da de day, mc Shan and marly marl be rhyming like they gayā€ dope lyrics ? He was always mad simple to me although message wise he was dope, def not on Ra or G Rap level to me
