Yep, audiobook game has came a long way from one person, reading the whole book in the same tone and that's it. People put more effort into making them, then you got the places like Graphic Audio that specialize in making the best experience. Their tagline is "A movie in your mind". They go all out on the books they do. Almost every character has their own voice actor, sound effects, music, everything. This is what the cast of one of their books(Mistborn) looks like:
