It’s a special type of resentment that builds in you when your own family is against you.

I don't discuss anything with them they will randomly bring it up when they hear music from my room, it's actually very infuriating, I'm not quitting my 9-5 i just got laid off luckily I have a new job lined right up.

As another poster said it has to be London or NYC for me since I'm not doing hip hop atm, most likely NYC

Wait , how old are you?

They trying look out for you and think "logically" about it.

I wasn't expecting this to be about music from reading the title TBH.

What your Mom said was kind of mean tho

"If you were any good you would be famous by now" :dead: :dead: :dead:

Sorry but that's an auto-bush statement. Might have to delete their number
Not even joking. Because they are using Music as an excuse to disrespect you. It's bigger than your career choice, it's something deeper. You might have to physically separate yourself from them. Don't listen to others that say "They are family, they love you in a different way"

Nah, you will never be internally free without living on your own away from them. Period

See I know I'm not buggin, it has to be some sort of projection on their part.

@GrindtooFilthy

If you love music and Engineering. There is always a career in Acoustic Engineering. Very lucrative career that can even go into Music Engineering consulting
Been looking at it but that's a career switch where I would have to do a complete relocation, most jobs like that are in LA. My goal is to find something I can do 100% completely remote so I'm mobile and go whenever and wherever I want

Momma is fed up breh

My sister paid for my studio time, i'm forever in her debt for that :wow:

Stay true to yourself but at the same time, be smart

You can still pursue music while doing what you can to be financially stable. Don't go out the window throwing everything away to focus strictly on music

Unless you see growth in what you're doing musically. No one in your family sounds like they'd recognize the talent or potential. Surround yourself with positive genuine people who know music

Rely on their input. Make sure your support system has your best interest. But always understand family is family. Boundaries can be set. But you gotta do what's best for your life in the short and the long term. Your mom is all you got breh

I mean if y’all all living under one roof ain’t nothing you can do until you move back out when you start working again. I wish you the best of luck. I didn’t mean to imply I didn’t think you weren’t talented. I do think you are bro, I just was saying I’ve had similar conversations with my dad when I was young and heard other guys have them with they dad. Your people not against you. It just seem extra harsh because y’all constantly around each other every single day. So they think you throwing your life away. Just move out as soon as you can. You got talent tho bro. Don’t let it affect you. But they not against you. They just regular parents . They mean well. All parents be like that. That’s why you gotta just talk to them on the phone and see them every now and then lol

Since you are already an Engineer, you can go into Building Design, there is a big market to have Acoustic advisors for sound sensitive establishments like auditoriums, office buildings, stadiums, etc. I'm sure you got experience with CAD or Revit, lean into that
Also look into Stage design or Stage Management

That could be another avenue where you are making money while pursuing your dream. And another avenue to get connections as well

Breh, I've just had the idea of all ideas. Something that may be exactly what you're seeking and itll be speaking the lingo of so many people so you may end up another Skee Lo with a left field smash.

Take this beat:

And flip the lyrics to your situ but keep the hook and that'll be a hit because it'll have the tokkers tikking, ya dig? Plus it'll be a huge difference to all the ice grill drill and so relatable as well.

Throw @Hathaway on the hook and we're good.

Parents most often want their kids to be safe…. They don’t see music as a way to made ends meet, but if you have belief in yourself you can show them. But in the meantime I’d show them I’m making money but still pursue my dreams on the low

Y’all know my story by now Engineer trying pursue music

Lost my job a while back but luckily I got hired by the military & don’t start until a few months from now

But during the process of my unemployment my parents kept constantly telling me to quit music I’ll never make it. I think it was a few weeks ago when my mom said some shyt that pushed over the edge. Her words “If you were any good you would be famous by now”

But we all know this industry doesn’t respect talent just money and clout and some of you heard my shyt and can attest I’m not trash.

Lowkey had me thinking I think I’m halfway done with my family. Cause at this point they just pissing me off
Breh, that's cold. No parent should say anything close to that to their seed, b.

With that said, years ago was in a similar situation as you regarding certain family members and the bushes they were to be a part of. After a rather eye-opening convo with them collectively, I had to understand that if they didn't understand/ acknowledge/ respect my presence and continued with the lies, then my absence was my gift to them.

Though it was tough, it was the best decision I've ever made. No regrets.:wow:

You could stick to your day job and pursue music as a hobby until you hopefully blow up. That's how most people get on in the music business. Similarly, these big youtubers did it as a side hobby until their channel blew up and they felt it was a safe bet to quit their 9-5 and make a living out of their passion. As an adult you gotta be realistic and approach your passion with a solid strategy and not just expect shyt to happen only because you have a passion for it. Plenty of gifted people in all sorts of fields i life never even make it for various reasons so having talent/passion is not enough in 2023. There is also the case of ageism in entertainment.
