The best food in NY is expensive breh.
You're getting pizza , I'm guessing at mostly chain food places like Rays Pizza.

There are a lot of nice food spots midtown and in the village. But they cost double or triple what people would spend on dinner at Applebee's or cheesecake factory.

I personally feel NYC has the best selection of food anywhere. Just you have to use yelp and foursquare to find the best spots.

I was at a wedding rehearsal dinner last year and they had pizza from a place called l'inizio pizza in LIC. That was probably the best pizza I've ever had

Some of the best Jerk Chicken/Jamaican spots in Brooklyn are right by or not too far from that Q train where you was at. (Peppas, FIshermans cove, Exquisitie Delight)
