Its crazy how The Roots are super mainstream with not 1 mainstream hit song.

No they weren't. What They Do was top 34 song on billboard. Not rap or r&b but Billboard period.

That's definitely news to me. Not even lookin at stats, just listening around that time. That got virtually no play in Philly...Clones I'd say was the biggest track off that album.,,as far as airplay.

Yeah Clones and Proceed weren't even top 100. What They Do was number 34 on billboard at it's peak.

I've thoughts things like this before. Our perception be wrong. I was shocked when I found out DMX's biggest hit was only top 27 (Party Up) on Billboard. Cause his songs seemed huger at the time. But he was a much bigger album seller than a singles rapper.

They have 5 songs that were top 100 on billboard. You got me was Top 40.

That's upper echelon

I see a few people r confusing mainstream hit with urban hit.

:jbhmm:

You Got Me was an urban hit. A song like Nellys Hot In Here or Snoops Drop it Like Its Hot or 50 Cents Candy Shop are examples of mainstream hits.

And Proceed was in heavy rotation in Philly.
