People thought the housing bubble would eventually pop and house prices would become sane well over a decade ago. If the powers that be want to ensure the housing bubble won't pop due to voters striking back, the fact housing prices affect pension funds or that most lawmakers own multiple homes I don't see why the government would let the AI bubble pop.

I don't think people understand how much of a gamechanger AGI is.

If China creates an AGI before everyone else they will create an asymmetric technological gap that likely cannot be closed. Developing AI safely is a massive national security concern, almost at the level of climate change.
