You save up $1,000. That's 4-5 IT certifications right there, each test like $200.

You save up $1,000-$3,000. That's a CDL right there. Or you go drive for a company for a year and they'll train you, give you a CDL for free.

You can go to community college. Pay as you go or get grants. Get an Associate's. Transfer to your state university. Get your Bachelor's. Easy. Done in 4-5 years.

shyt nikka, you can drive Uber. Make $800 a week. Stack money and get trained in something more long term.

You can get into HVAC, Welding, Plumbing, Electrician work.

Teach yourself how to program.

Develop a marketable skill and do freelancing.

Start a business. You broke. You don't have anything to lose anyway.

It's a million ways.

That money people be spending on cigs, beer, lotto tickets etc 5 dollars here and there that small shyt adds up and big penny jar for any spare change laying around

Just gotta be patient willpower but like others said if you got kids then damn near impossible but still doable

i don't think any of us are speaking of ourselves... none of us are broke.. i'd hope not, with a phone that can access the coli and/or computer and gaming systems

we talking about people we know/things we seen... fukkED up broke... ghostface killa broke

Family ain't family no more, we used to play ball
Eggs after school, eat grits 'cause we was poor

Grab the pliers for the channel, fix the hanger on the TV
Rockin' each others pants to school wasn't easy
We survived winters, snotty nosed with no coats
We kept it real, but the older brother still had jokes

Sadly, daddy left me at the age of six
I didn't know nothin' but mommy neatly packed his shyt
She cried, and grandma held the family down
I guess mommy wasn't strong enough, she just went down

Check it, fifteen of us in a three bedroom apartment
Roaches everywhere, cousins and aunts was there
Four in the bed, two at the foot, two at the head
I didn't like to sleep with Jon-Jon, he peed the bed

Seven o'clock, pluckin' roaches out the cereal box
Some shared the same spoon watchin' Saturday cartoons
Sugar water was our thing, every meal was no thrill
In the summer, free lunch held us down like steel

And there was days I had to go to Tex house with a note
Statin', "Gloria can I borrow some food ? I'm dead broke"

So embarrasin' I couldn't stand to knock on they door
My friends might be laughin', I spent stamps in stores

Mommy, where's the toilet paper? Use the newspaper
Look Miss Rose gave us a couch, she's the neighbor

Things was deep, my whole youth was sharper than cleats

Two brothers with muscular dystrophy, it killed me

:mjcry::sadcam::to::sadbron::damn:

I don't feel sorry them.

People make a choice to be broke.

It's not at all. It's just that alot of poor people spend money on stupid shyt instead of investing in themselves. You go to alot of homes in the hood they living in a HUD apartment but have a closet full of clothes they spent thousands on. Imagine if they said fukk trends and the social pressure of looking cool and going to clubs. It's definitely not impossible... people need to make smarter choses. But again that's easier said than done.

exactly . the shyt aint rocket science
maybe they should slow down on them Js

I'm hearing the same bullshyt rhetoric that gets tossed around by those tea party a$$holes.

I've lived in the hood with immigrants that you say come here and "make it big." Do you think they give visas to just any old person that applies? The US realizes that it's an investment by accepting more-or-less the cream of the crop from other countries. People look at their Nigerian coworker who came here with his brother and now has 2 degrees and a 6-figure job... but you're overlooking the 100's of nigerians that didn't make it here and if they did they wouldn't be shyt either. These type of people have been raised to think the right way, had a much better education on average than your average poor american, have a support system both back home and within their ethnic communities, and have the personal drive to pull themselves out from their current situation to something better.

It's unfair to ask everyone who was born into poverty to do that, and it's technically impossible. Not everyone get's to do the big sales pitch. Somebody gotta mop and vacuum. So before we make generalizations about what poor people can or cannot do, just come to terms with the fact that they are a staple of living in a capitalistic society (which I've benefitted from so I'm not asking for any changes in that regard). And as a rich and powerful nation, it is disgusting to believe we should just leave them to the wolves like we're trying to make some sort of sick point.

All of that to say that some of y'all come across as privileged and I'm sure you "think" you grew up poor but you clearly haven't.

So let me guess... you dont know any poor people with Js , Polo, Gucci belts flatscreens, etc ?

Yes but are you telling me that the 27.4% of blacks in poverty are all like that? That all of them are simply poor because they didn't try hard enough? Using the same stereotypes they use on Fox News. A lot of these posts are ignoring institutionalized racism too bringing up immigrants that are making it

:patrice:

Some of the responses are very oversimplified

Every single one of them that I knew was hustlin' and dropped out by freshman year. And literally all of them are dead or in jail - I'm not even saying that shyt as a cliche. But hey, maybe you know better than a kid who grew up in the DC area in the early 90's.
