In terms of Xs and Os, Mike Shanahan is the guy I like the best so far (still holding out for Pep or Holmgren). His ZBS could be good for us, and he's had success with mobile QBs before. I'm not encouraged by how his tenure in DC ended, but I think he's a decent candidate, especially with this field.
Should Fangio leave, I guess I'd be OK with Rex coming in, but we'd still need to find a top offensive mind for our OC spot.
I wouldn't be too mad with Shanahan as HC and Fangio as DC (or if Fangio leaves, Tomsula as DC).

Shannahan has the endorsements of both Montana and Young. I doubt he'd burn those bridges of he were to get hired here.
About Rex/Fangio, they worked together on Baltimore's staff and apparently have a good relationship, so them hitting Rex and Fangio staying on at DC isn't that far fetched.
If we do hire a "defensive" minded head coach, please believe that we'll be going back to the power run game.

We gave the guy 4 years, he took us to the championship game and the SB in 3/4 of those.

We need a great offensive mind, doesn't matter if it's the HC or OC. We don't even really need a great one, we just need a functional one. With the talent we have on both sides of the field, we just need someone to set us on the right track.
