How come Karl Malone not mentioned in the GOAT convo? He has all those points
He's not even the GOAT 4. The real issue is how he would collapse in the offs and his off the court life. Made all that scoring for not. Stockton is the leader in assists and steals and nobody cares about that either.

Insignificant posting from an insignificant poster
Update: 1514 pts now

:wtf: I didn’t realize he was that close. So if my maths is correct, he just has to average his current 28.8 ppg for 72 more games?? :mindblown:

There’s about 38 games left for the Lakers in the season, so he should have1094 at the end of this season, leaving him w 973, so 35 games into next season he could pass it :ohhh:

He just needs to score 1,843 points to match it.

22.3 points a game for the rest of the regular season will do it.

If lakers go to the post season, and at said rate... he will become the greatest NBA scorer of all time this year.

Them Time Machines looking like a must cop now.

Edit; just saw the update. He can possibly do this before the allstar game.

I don't think any of those historical total records are that impressive, as they're more longevity accomplishments than anything else. If you have the benefit of playing long enough, you'll naturally climb the ranks. It doesn't necessarily speak to how great you are, but more so how long you've lasted. Where the mark is set now, Cap was a shell of his former self and lucky to still be be in the league; it wasn't as if all his points came when he was at his best.

The fact that when Bron will surpass him, he'll still be one of the best players in the league, is what makes this feat impressive.

Even if Bron is surpassed in the future, I doubt it'll be from someone who lasted that long at the top.

Yes and no

You have to have sustained levels of greatness to reach that level. The difference between the likes of Kobe, Bron and someone like Karl Malone is that they got it done in the postseason the vast majority of their careers as well

It's still EXTREMELY impressive to do it in the regular season year on and year out
