Despite Bulls fans idiotic hatred of Pau, keeping him is smart if he truly wants to re-sign. His cap hold end of season will only be $9.7mil, so cap space will be preserved even if he eventually signs for $20mil, say Dun retires and Snell gets moved for cap space and this squad can have the same core + $30+mil in cap space this offseason.
These fukking idiots are going to sign Pau for 20 mil. I mean they paid MJD and he could barely walk.

Even if he signs for $20mil, we have his Bird rights and his cap hold is $9.7mil, that is what is offseason value should be assessed at as Bulls fans and that's a fukking bargain in this league when Kotsta Koufas makes almost the same

Resigning gasol on a bargain deal is not the issue
Making that the top priority is what the issue is here.
And bringing in a couple of role players that help you win now aids you in bringing back gasol at a bargain
Now if we suck the rest of the year, you almost have to pay more than you would have if we were winning to keep him because of course he will want to go to a more winning situation. So now we have to drop a bag to keep him on a sinking ship
And bets believe we won't be on the top list of any quality players on the move this off season, especially when you consider how incompetent this front office is, and the one piece of leverage we used to have (only one of few teams with cap space ) won't be there because everyone will have cap space. So we will then be over paying for players no one else wants.
