It's different because buying an album still counts as a purchase, you're only cutting into your profit.
Digital data are lines and lines of code, so it has to be precise in order to work. It seems they aren't even creating phantom users, just utilizing the code with existing accounts. They correct way was for them to have a budget for phantom accounts, that streamed whatever they wanted to push. So when audited, they still have paying accounts that are streaming.

Pretty damn obvious the numbers are skewed. Just do this: go outside. In the days were people were selling platinum off CDs and tapes or whatever, whether or not you liked it, you'd hear it in somebody else's car or lead single on the radio AT LEAST... played on the TV music video show, etc. I know TV is kinda dead, but outside isn't - so who the hell is listening to these albums!?!? I couldn't even catch wind of maybe 50 of those 250 million streams???
