Yeah my TCL interface is starting to get choppy, slow af and inconsistent so I could see why this would be a issue but you could always use the hdmi port and use another device which would suck actually :francis:
I think it’s because the updates and the app updates, they’re designed to increase memory usage which would make your limited memory obsolete after a few years. Just like a iPhone, android or any other app based device. Security issues are gonna happen regardless, tv is just one of many always connected devices so it doesn’t make sense to single those out and not look at the problem in its entirety.

Smart TVs are only as intrusive and inconvenient as you let it be.

The fact that you're at the mercy of the OEM for what services are or aren't available on the TV is reason to not mess with all that alone. The only time I've ever used any of those is recently when the Hulu application slows down on my Chromecast with Google TV (but that's more a problem with the app itself. Hulu is resource intensive as is, and the decision to keep live TV streaming while a user scrolls through the channel guide is automatic slowdown).

But the reality is that all of those features help people justify their purchases. Spending money on a new TV feels better to some folks if it seems like they're getting a bunch of features of other devices rolled into one.

People really should be educating themselves on home network setups and how to protect themselves from things like this. With more and more devices having a connection to the internet, you really are setting yourself up for headaches by not knowing what/who your devices are talking to:francis:

Only time i have ever used the smart features through the tv is on a Roku TV. Anything other than that and im going through a Roku or Firestick. The UI on those smart tvs are beyond trash.

As someone already mentioned buy a "Smart TV" and don't connect it to your wifi - use an Apple TV, Roku, Firestick, etc. instead on it.

Better yet if you're up on your hardware knowledge, open up the panel and physically disconnect the LAN port/wifi antenna. I've read that some companies got wise and baked in those things to the operation of the TVs themselves, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

Unless they did some configuration in which the device will try to connect to all seen open wifi spots around and try to reach out to share gathered information.
