Negativity (Kayfabe)
The number one problem with is; this means the industry has too much control

Aint no real acts comin up without the industry touch if this as widespread as it seems

But yall actually think this is no biggie but complain about the state of Rap

The more this happens the checks and balances dissappear

haha...

I have never heard a single song from these cornballs, and I am glad...

Their fans got brainwashed with "hipster hype," and now they are acting like "I heard the music and fell in love with it."

At this point how can you tell if you love the music because of the music or because the label cleverly hypnotized you with hipster hype...?

You can't tell...

These "I don't care as long as the music is good" people are the part of the reason that there will never be a truly successful independent scene anymore.

But these days, I guess people don't care if everything is all mainstream as long as they like it. That's hip-hop for you though. :manny:

yeah you can stop with the "I wanna save hip hop" crap breh

Being signed to young money and gettin distribution through Universal are 2 different things. And that once again shows u, that just because u are signed under a certain artist or label, u can still release records indy. Also u are the one that  ... In that link u gave reference number 39 is a XXL article dated november 2008(FEATURE: Nicki Minaj:Climax - XXL), in that very article they ask Nicki if she "is STILL Young Money".
So clearly by 2008, its been long established that she was signed to YMCMB.

In that same interview she also says she is in the middle of a bidding war for a major label. Similar situation as to how Sucka Free came out as a Trap-a-holics indy release, just like how Habits and Contradictions came out indy under TDE (as did Section.80). Q and Kendrick may or may have not been already signed to Interscope. But the albums were indeed independent ones. With no big machine behind those 2 projects (unlike GKMC and now Oxymoron)
Since cash money got their MAJOR DEAL,how many records have they released that DIDNT go through universal? As far as a major letting someone release a mixtape on another label, that's neither here nor there,if it's free. As far as independent ALBUMS by artists that are signed, that's bullshyt. Why would a label give an artist an advance, big name cosigns, just to let them send an actual album to retail that they dont make ANY MONEY ON? :merchant: I'm not sure what level of deception was used creating nicki minaj. What i do know is that it was a big public announcement about her signing in 2009,despite the prior whispers of her being down in 07'-08'. I feel it was a form of deception,i feel from the moment she met wayne,he was pulling all strings, rather universal was on board or not,she was signed to nikkas whom made millions of dollars. Though i believe universal had been on board. Kendrick and them, same deal. He's marketed as some independent phenom that blew up,when in fact interscope blew him up. His boy let the cat out the bag. They've been getting marketed since they've signed in 2011 etc. Rather it's internet marketing etc. Them nikkas aint organic, that's why their buzz seems so fake. I remember artists that really was hot amongst the people without force fed/purchased buzz. shyt felt waaaaaaaay different. I cant knock the huslte BUT..... it puts real independent artists in an ill position. Where they have to match popularity with some fraudulent nikkas.

You present your argument, I had mine. I think at this point we can only agree to disagree. I feel like I've said what I can about the subject. I cant be sure Q and K.dot weren't signed, just like you cant be sure they were. I think Q could've easily said 2011 by mistake. Even if they were indeed signed, I dont believe at that point Intersope (which BTW is also a branch of Universal, just like Def Jam and pretty much any other major hip hop label) had enough invested into TDE to care whether they would be releasing their own indy albums under their own label(and budget). In fact said indy albums can only help the buzz.

You coming in this thread making comments like this, puts you on the same level or below the dudes you are making comments about. This is a hiphop forum, designed for conversation about hiphop artists. If we should feel a certain way because we're in here discussing rappers that are GETTING MONEY,how should you feel, spending time discussing these very posters?

I feel what you're trying to say. However, its A FACT that that they were said to have signed in 2012 and ITS A FACT that Q told a different story. Its not 10-20 years later and this guy is forgetting when he signed the most important deal he's ever made? And not by a week or two but an entirely different year? I dont know how old you are,but i truely remember how it felt when true indy nikkas started to buzz,i remember how it felt. I truely believe most NOT ALL of these rappers are signing 360's and the labels are creating fake independent buzzes. None of this seems organic at all. So much fake shyt going on. I look at how they left nelly off that list of top rappers of the millenium. But put drake on it. Drake had only sold 1 mil at the time and was forced into stardom by having a single feat eminem wayne and kanye i beleive. He was signed to the biggest rapper in the game. Meanwhile nelly came in on without a big cosign at all. Sold nine mil then six mil etc etc. And they leave him off wtf. I remember there being a top song list of hiphop and they had THA BLOCK IS HOT on there lol. That song wasnt shyt and only got burn cause he was in a hot clique. That wasnt no real meaningful song when it dropped. Like bling bling HA back that ass up etc. Alot of this shyt is fake as fukk
