This mite be the STRANGEST thread to date on this motherfukker

Sent from handheld Minority Report console

If you don't see how this shyt all ties in together... I ain't got shyt for you.

You find the dumbest shyt to not worry about. If you don't give a fukk about the music business, just say that. Be a fan. Not all of us are just fans.

Why is that so hard for you to understand? :dwillhuh:

Uh how about the fact that you think Drake set a blueprint for 'plants' when industry plant blueprint has been around forever.....

:snoop:

no d*ck.

he set the blueprint for the current model that these labels have been using to plant rappers for the past few years.

what part of that do you not understand? stop being so stupid all the time.

since you want to pull up quotes, pull up the quotes beforehand when i mentioned how :old: people in their 70s know what industry plants are.....but you dont want to do that.

It's not about just the paper. It's simple as this. Billboard rankings give you notice. It gives you clout. Top 40 radio has to play you. You get invites for appearances. But songs like Harlem Shake ride Youtube to the top. If the songs I'm involved with aren't out here making Youtube videos of folks dancing like crazy, that does shortcut people from possibly making those same moves.

So yes in a sense, it does fukk up the paper if novelty hits now come strictly from Youtube rather than radio or sales. At least Gangnam Style got radio play and trash like Call Me Maybe sold records. Harlem Shake was just Youtube shyt. That's how the paper gets played with.

But you right though, it is a dirty game. :manny:

I mean shyt is always changing bruh. People who complain about the world changing sound :50holmes:. Real pop stars can weather and adapt to any change.

Plus the Harlem shake shyt is done. It played itself out in a month. That dude is not getting any appearances. He is not selling out shows. He is not getting commercial slots. I would go as far as to say people are sick of the Harlem shake song. I know I am. Pop music is pretty short lived, but YT shyt like that is about as preservable as raw oysters.

End of the day though, even for someone like Psy, you can't hate. The game is always changing. If you cant compete don't bother playing :steviej:

I ain't hating on them. I can adapt. Only problem, as many critics of the new Billboard change agreed on, was that Youtube held way too much weight. It should be allowed and accounted for. But you got to allow folks a chance. A lot of rock/country bands, who have dedicated fanbases, won't have their artists chart as well due to the change. So it's not just hip-hop fans.

You right, folks have to change and adapt, but those changes and adaptations should be accounted for more accurately.

I mean every change is going to make someone unhappy. But its necessary. Multimillion view videos aren't that popular are they? I think in the grand scheme of things it doesn't make that big of a difference. If anything its better, as the old ways to get Billboard charting generally mean working through a middleman. Now, in theory, someone could (and many people have) get shine just by making and posting a vid. So if I'm an artist eating off of industry favors and payola I'd be justifiably scared.

a good read on A$AP and how they got started plus

Sometimes it’s not completely conscious or as well thought out as Stevie did, so I don’t know if we can talk about manipulation, but there are definitely some artists that are being helped by some blogs. It can be explained by friendliness. As artists eventually get closer with bloggers/journalists for instance. There is this one blog of a skating clothing brand, talking a lot about rap music; this is exactly what I’m saying… Rappers they highlight always have a small success thanks to their support… And after chatting here and there, I realised that it’s just a huge friendliness network. Neither the rappers nor the bloggers are completely aware of it.

And there’s also some quite vicious stuff. Here’s a funny one. I’m part of a Facebook group gathering almost all the American bloggers, something like 10 rappers and a bunch of producers… One day we asked ourselves, if we all started to praise somebody at the same time on our different websites, wrapping up the whole thing well, like taking a beat from that well-known producer, a featuring with this hot cat and shyt… Would we succeed in making believe he’s dope ?

We took someone from the group who didn’t know how to rap, someone ghostwrited his lyrics and we made him rap on some beat from a producer everyone would know… One after the other, every blogger from the group wrote some stuff to explain why it was dope… It worked. But even more than everything we could have imagined. As this artist went highly praised by all the « tastemaker » blogs, for real. We found him in some year-end blog lists from bone-headed hipsters websites nearly interested in rap, some articles saying it was revolutionary, including some big players like Complex, Fader, Spin, Pitchfork… And now… well this artist has a career. Not amongst the rap audience, but amongst kind of retarded hipsters who love to believe that they listen to rap music, it’s a hit. This artist is touring now, hanging around with stars and shyt… I think I won’t reveal his identity for now, but someday someone will, for sure.

Anyway, I don’t know if it’s a proof that these kinds of practices do exist, but it’s a proof it definitely works.

More on a RNT model, there are the Baller’s Eve guys, responsible for launching Yelawof, Trinidad James and a few other careers. The boss of this radio/blog seems to hang out and find new talents pretty much everywhere, then manages them a bit undercover before pretending he discovers them when posting on his blog.

entire story here english at the bottom..
