I don't get the big deal. Before we were privy to the Internet, isn't this like when we first heard Pac,

Snoop, or Nas before their debuts. They were already signed in some type of way. Noone cared about industry tries back then. It was all about if you were nice or not. :yeshrug:
Industry groupies hate the idea that anyone could blow off the strength of their talent rather than their cosigns. The idea that these nikkas would get so hyped up over this revelation shows where their priorities are. Signed, unsigned, fake signed, Kendrick is heads and shoulders above anyone the likes of the OP is paid to push here, musically, and nothing will change that.

If this shyt was such a big deal nikkas would have jumped off the Kendrick bandwagon as soon as word got out that he signed to Interscope, which is as "un-independent" as you can get. And yet now, with the second disc, nikkas rock with him even harder. Imagine that :ohhh:

hold up, what part of my posts gives off the idea that i think industry plants are something new? did you not just see me tell the bul that even people in their 70s know what industry plants are? i should be the last person in here that you try to say that chit to.

no, currensy isnt all that known in hip-hop either. he has a supportive niche audience and hes cashing in but hes far from a hip-hop household name. FAR FROM IT. and ive been a fan of his for a decade now.

people in toronto knew about drake. they just didnt care. the same with k.dot.....i mean kendrick. you mentioned asap rocky, he himself said niccas thought that he & his team were gay, so they latched onto the hipster crowd to blow up. i could go on.

AND AGAIN, if your music is really that great, you dont need any type of push to gain a local buzz. if your chit is that hot, you just need to grind properly and you will at least make some sort of name for yourself.

who are they? i only see people calling gmkc a classic on the internet. the same people who were trying to call section 80 a classic.

and its all apart of the same push. hes been shoved down our throats as the next big thing by the magazines, tv, etc. did you not see the BET hip-hop awards? the show was basically about him and nobody knew who he was before they tuned in/ the crowd didnt even know that nucca. up there accepting awards with the guilt-face.

and still, the general public has yet to buy into it.
They are the people on twitter, facebook, in the colleges I live around and people on the street, Section 80 sold like 90k, gkmc is almost plat, so obviously he gained a nice fanbase that never heard him before, and no I dont watch award shows

The fact is that their "rise" wasn't as organic as you make it sound.

You can easily tell in this thread who actually cares about hip-hop as an artform and culture and who just wants the music, mainly because it's good, popular music.

I ain't mad at folks like Kendrick Lamar. Most of the people who like him, like many in this thread, will not give two fukks about him 5 years from now as they move on to the next artist who is going to "change hip-hop for the better." So he might as well get his money now.

But hey, do you. :smugfavre:

:wtf:

twitter, facebook, etc IS THE INTERNET. and if by colleges, you mean universities - theyre grouped into that same boat.

as far as 'people on the street' go, lets not act like hes tearing up the streets in any way. if by 'people on the street', you mean random people that just go with the flow of whatever the tv & radio are dictating, then yea theres some. thats the whole point.

But most of the people on the internet didnt hear section 80, it wasnt untill gkmc dropped that a lot of people heard, so that means most people didnt hear him as a indy(Or a pretend indy artist) they heard after he was cosign by dre and was signed, so what u saying is nobody has they own mind to hear if music is good or not, me personally didnt care if he was signed are not, I thought section 80 was average until probably a monh later, I dont fare if u indy or not good music is good music, trash music is trash, And kendrick dropped great shyt

I dont care if a artist is indy or not, dont change music quality to me, its either trash or not:trash:

this is false. the internet was hyping up section 80 as a classic a full year before gmkc dropped.

and kendrick was cosigned & secretly signed by dr dre before section 80 dropped. we were trying to tell yall back then, even before they had that phoney little coronation, which was before section 80 dropped as well, or at least before the hype became over-bearing. you think dre is gonna come out from hiding and call up snoop, game, kurupt, etc to show up ro a random concert and call kendrick the king just for kicks? come on man.

and again, if kendrick's music was as great as you say, he wouldnt need to go thru all these shenanigans just to obtain minimal relevance.

Uh how about the fact that you think Drake set a blueprint for 'plants' when industry plant blueprint has been around forever.....

Homeboy Runny-Ray said:
drake was the biggest plant of them all.

hes also the one that set the blueprint for the plantation.
