I know this might blow your mind breh but...
You can still drop projects independently of a major if
you're signed to one.
:russ:
Rappers do it all the time.

Look at this nikka ya'll :pachaha:

School boy himself talkin bout how he been in the studio in 2011 with mega producers like boi-1da , David Banner , Alchemist, Mike Will.

sure the record label paid for the studio time, the features, the mixing and mastering, the promotion, the viral marketing that got these nikkas fooled, the videos for the singles for it and more

but it's indie in spirit bro, that's what counts :heh:

All of the TDE projects up to good kid, maad city were released independently.

I'm the marketing manager/A&R at EMPIRE Distribution and we signed TDE to digital distribution in the summer of 2010 and digitally released Overly Dedicated, Setbacks, Long Term Mentality and Section.80. Jay Rock set up the deal at the time as I had dealt with him in the past for DubCNN.

It was between the release of O.D. and Section.80 that the transition to Dr. Dre happened, but they were still very much independent and there was no Aftermath/Interscope involvement in the release of Section.80. I pitched those released to iTunes, Amazon etc personally.

After Section.80, "control system" and "Habits & Contradictions" were released without EMPIRE's involvement, so I don't know too much about those, but they were independent releases as well.

But yes, it is very much possible for artists to have a major deal but to keep it under wraps in order to create the illusion of organic growth. However, that wasn't really the case for TDE - sure the Dre cosign helped everybody jump on their nuts - but the foundation was already laid with their independent work.

Which is true.
Several rappers have done it.

Look at this poster y'all so happy to diss TDE. :mjpls:
You don't need the labels permission to drop a mixtape or street album
because it doesn't count towards your contract.

An album on the other hand.....

I just don't see how this is a big deal. It's been plenty of bum ass rappers who've been signed and never done anything.

Now we got dudes who are actually talented and you guys hate? What the hell do you want out of this?

This thread jus got real :leon:

Industry insiders, back on the coli, this is like tha Armvnii era all ova again :bryan:

But as for the thread. Alot of ya are missing the point. Schoolboy himself said he was signed to Interscope since 2011. They hid this info, released numerous "indie" albums with obvious industry backing in 2011 and early 2012, how ya think the social media blogs all of a sudden caught TDE fever :mjpls:. Then released such info in 2012, like they JUST, inked the deal.

Lets call it for what it is brehs :manny:

:comeon:

I think that's obvious.
They'd much rather we all join in and do cooking dances
while calling ourselves "Pretty bytches" cause that'd be the antithesis
to "Real Hip Hop" and thus "Not nerdy" and "Cool"

Cause liking "Hip Hop" is a sin with some members/trolls :mjpls:

Crabs in a barrel man..
You should tweet this question the the people who committed this heinous act. If it doesnt matter, ask them why they did it. But naw,you wanna talk shyt to the fans for acknowledging they've been played? What type of man are you :snoop:
