tbh i doubt most people on this board really listen to hip hop. most of yall listen to main stream rappers and artists that the coli hypes up. but most of the board is white anyway. i only know one white hip hop fan in real life, the rest are just following trends.

I don't think I've outgrown hip hop but I've certainly outgrown the commercial shyt they play on the radio... there's certainly hip hop that caters to a more "grown" audience though; Lupe, Phonte, The Roots, Brother Ali, etc. come to mind

and SMH at calling someone who is opposed to a genre of music that often perpetuates drug use, frivolous spending, and violence a c00n, though... you dudes have your priorities backwards, man

ok, my uncle used to buy Public Enemy records, Paid In Full and he used to b-boy, my pops had nikkaz4life Doggystye and ready to die etc when they came out, but now they're in their 50's. If they ain't bumping whats hot in the streets in hip hip in 2012 I wouldn't call it c00ning i call it acting their age.

I think what the OP is saying is that even if you don't fucck with what's going on as far as mainstream goes you're still always gonna have that hip-hop that you love...I think he's talking on people who completely abandon the genre like it's all some trash shhit

To outgrow Hip/Hop as an artform means that you never appreciated the artform in the first place.

Does that mean most current hip hop fans have an actual appreciation for the artform?

There are plenty of casual fans out there who will listen to anything that gets played on the radio. Is that considered a true appreciation for the artform?

If I like a lot of current hip hop but hate everything before 2002 is that true appreciation? What if I hate everything after 2002?

How many years does it take to become a true fan?

Anti-backpackers are starting to sound just like the backpackers...

But its impossible to know everything. In this case hate can just mean "I've heard it, I don't like it and I'm not interested enough to look for anymore".

That hateful enough

I'm with other people that have just outgrown certain avenues of the art. A lot of the shyt that's easily accessible today is fukking atrocious. There is good hip hop out there, but A: you have to go on a scavenger hunt to find it, or B: the artists that make it are either fairly inactive, or annoying/condescending as fukk. Sadly, A and B are most likely closely related.
