lol at anyone on the coli being in an ivy league school

STFU. I get tired of ppl parroting this dumb shyt whenever this is brought up like smart ppl dont browse the internet :what:.

Anyways this is a great question. My brother goes to Yale and socially he doesn't really like it their much. Your concerns are the exact reason I chose not to goto an ivy myself. Don't do what I did though, I completely shunned out the idea and didn't even bother even applying, researching or anything. A friend of mine goes to MIT and Boston is a fun college area. If your black at MIT, there's almost a fraternity like thing you can get into where you live and socialize with other black ppl. They have a "brother/sister" type relationship with a group of chicks at another all girls school in Boston called Wellesley and there are some BAD bytchES in there :whew: (I've visited and will probably be back up there in february).....I kind of wish I went to MIT myself (Im a MechE btw so it would be inline with my major). Honestly if you plan on doing CompSci and your thinking about that social scene stuff goto MIT.

I know a chick that goes to Duke and was actually supposed to go there to visit with my homies a month ago. They went and told me it was whack. My brother goes to Yale, he doesn't really fukk with their social scene. I know ppl that went to UPenn and my homies sister goes to Princeton (tbh I know ppl pretty much at every top school on the east coast you can name except for Brown and Dartmouth) but I don't know them on a partying level so I can't really say.

But for what your saying I think MIT might be your best choice.

And btw: Duke isn't an ivy just like UVA isn't an ivy, just like Vanerbilt isn't an ivy, just like Rice isn't an ivy. They are just great schools in the south and I guess in a region where education doesnt seem to be much in the forefront they stick out and ppl like to throw that "ivy" title on them. Its whack if you ask me. "Southern Ivy"...:stopitslime:. Idlk why ppl even give ivy's all this praise in this day and age. Its all about majors and programs. I goto Maryland and we have amazing Engineering, Journalism, and Business schools. Some of which are better than what are offered at some "ivies"

Coli posters are always suggesting and/or providing outright assertions regarding the relatively low socio-economic status of the majority of members here.

This is The Coli... not Facebook. Not Twitter. So, it's just such an anomally, sociologically speaking, for any Ivy League grad to be spending time here. Especially a current Ivy League student.

As for the underlined....
Probably, not...again, according to sociological theories. Namely structural functionalism.

But, lemmeeeeeeee guess, yoooooooooooou're a Wall Street banker!

There's a difference between a poster whom has access to tax brackets that are occupied by a smaller percentage of American's and an Ivy League grad whom has access to tax brackets that are occupied by a smaller percentage of American's...

Can't cite a study. Just using sociological theory.

Lol, I'm actually just picking your brains here, you raised a point, right ? You made a statement, right? So when questioned on it simply assert it. You can't raise a point, have feedback on it then turn sarcastic and fail to follow through.

No, I don't even live in the USA lol so I can't work in New York if I don't even live in the USA. The notion on the Wall Street banker was figurative i.e do you believe a highly educated middle - upperclass male would post on the coli.

I'm just trying to understand why you don't believe it's feasible.

As @ocmfII said, sports, music, wrestling, porn etc are those few things which attract everyone.

Do you think an Ivy League student would post on the ESPN board?

If so is the Hip Hop affiliation the coli has the reason you view it as more working class than other sport boards.

Hopefully you can answer those questions for an interesting discussion :ehh:

Think about this exchange and what you're trying to convey.

I found the coli from a body building forum. As you can imagine on a forum where people spent hundreds a month on expensive supplements it attracted people from all walks of life from grown men just into their bodybuilding to teenagers trying to bulk up.

I remember seeing a coli smiley on another forum also (if we wanted to be stereotypical it was one which catered to a more upper socio class clientele) and I found it interesting how you can find coli smileys being used on gym, car, sports, music forums and blogs everywhere.

Like my bodybuilding forum I always simply saw it as a men's forum which ofcourse will attract people from all walks of life. I'd like to think of a socio economic standing for it but I can't.

Hmmmm

Interesting :lupe:

Regardless...I'm glad there are two, self-professed Ivy League grads on the Coli. It's wonderful. It just breaks the sociological rules. That's the beauty of the Web...it allows for those rules to be broken.

I hope you've been "entertained."

That statement gets at what I've been posting about.

Let's look at it this way, Ok?

SOHH was one of the top, if not THE TOP, hip hop message board communities. It was cited by Rolling Stone, and often appeared as the first listing of a Web search for "Hip Hip/ Rap Message Boards."

Yet in still, the percentage of professed Ivy League grads on that site was slim to none.

Again, a lot of sociological theories, which some thought leaders who deal more with concrete variables, dismiss as overdeveloped, overinvolved stereotypes, hold true.

And Ivy League grads on sites such as this break the mold.

Again, glad you're here. For whatever reason it might be.

Lol @ the idea that not a single Ivy League graduate posts on one of the most popular hip-hop forums in the world. I went to an Ivy and a ton of my friends were huge rap nerds.

Im not even paying that shyt any mind. I know they're ppl who goto top tier schools that post/lurk/browse here.

Sounds like a very narrow minded unsubstantiated theory breh.
