The highs on here are way better than FHD.

His song concepts and overall lyrical performance are way better on this than FHD
. If you took away the excessive singing interludes it would easily be his best album in my opinion.

But then it would only be like 8 songs :patrice: I kinda like Ville Mentality tho. :ehh:
Easily his best album in terms of lyrics and content.

FHD dikkriders are pathetic for propping up that album. The BARS he spit on this album easily shyt on anything that was on that album.

If Cole keeps it consistent he could elevate even further sales wise and also in terms of stature in due course. This album has gained him some new fans and a lot of publicity, a lot of people can relate to the content of this if you got children, lost somebody and a bunch of other topics, a lot of females fukking with it too, touched a lot of people, future could be bright, he's also become sort of a spokesperson for anti mumble style rap and back to something with substance and genuine emotion, when you start to represent people people start to love you. I personally wasn't big on Cole's first album, improved on 2nd, 3rd I was a fan of and I'm a fan of this, it's increased my respect for him as an artist and as a fan, because I wanted to see if he'd follow up the last very good album with another very good 2, feel like he's done that. He had a lot of potential now to make some positive changes in the game, let's hope he's effective in this. I like diversity, there's room for more people than just Cole, it shouldn't be petty jealously and competition, there's room for plenty of artists to strive, diversity is good for Hip Hop.

Stop this line of reasoning... it's a marketing ploy and nothing more

We can have both mumble trap autotune music and struggle singing from psuedo deep rappers

He's not Killah Priest or Mos Def or Pharaoh Monche... he's J.Cole

Handcuffs keep huggin the, wrists of my nikkas
And I wish stuff was different here
But if I had a magic wand to make the evil disappear
That means that there would be no Santa Claus no more
To bring you Christmas cheer
‘Cause what he represents is really greed and the need
To purchase shyt from corporations that make a killin’
Because they feed on the wallets of the poor
Who be knockin’ on they door, every Black Friday
Just to get some shyt they can’t afford
Even with the discount, write a check, that shyt bounce
But as long as we got credit, it don’t matter, the amount

And that's just from "SHE'S MINE PT2".....

It's not a line of reasoning, it's what I'm seeing and hearing, he's started to represent that to people. I've seen and heard countless people, many I know personally actually, saying something along similar lines, praising him for being refreshing in this climate. He's not like Killah Priest no, not his style. He is however putting lyrics, concepts, emotion, substance in his work which is the difference. Not saying there isn't room for different types of music, but what I am saying is it's good to have some variety there such as J Cole and he represents an alternative to a lot of people, a welcome 1.

I've also being considering the possibility it's classic, need to listen more but it's gotten better with every listen and it's very good, if it's not it's close and it may be, in my opinion. Gonna keep listening and feeling it out. So far promising, really think it's very dope.

What's so refreshing about attacking a more talented producer-rapper who paved the way for you ? :jbhmm:

Cole already was the alternative after FHD....and Kendrick followed suit ..so how is this new ?:what:

Lyrics ? he's not Nas or Lupe level ..

Concepts ? See above

Emotion ... I give you that ... but the singing needs to be railed in

Substance ? Is he Dead Prez/Immortal Technique.Mos Def ?

Cole does his thing but let's not get carried away here ... you're only stanning due to your disdain for trap

If you mean Kanye I wasn't referring to that, I'm talking about the music, not who he's dissed or not dissed, I think people are enjoying he's put some lyrics, concepts and substance together and some actual rapping.

I think Cole's growing and elevating and reaching more people, isn't this gonna be his most successful album to date? This is the most I've heard and seen him talked about ever.

Lupe isn't mainstream anymore, and I'm not sure what numbers Nas is doing now, but is it as much as Cole? The point I don't believe is that he's the ONLY good lyricist or MC, but that within the mainstream he is 1 of the ones at the forefront who is successful while still making Hip Hop music with skill.

Don't agree, I quite like his singing, prefer it to a lot of the autotune stuff going on, I think he puts it together pretty well, he's far from the greatest singer vocally but I think he holds it down pretty well and makes it listenable, unlike somebody like Eminem for instance.

All those artists you mentioned later aren't really mainstream like that anymore, I think people think it's refreshing for a mainstream artist, or people who are unaware of those other artists.

Firstly not stanning, secondly while I had respect for Cole as a capable MC since I first heard him I have been critical of him, for example that first album which I didn't like, however I think he's progressed and improved and is now making really good music and potentially going to become a force and at the forefront now. Just credit where it's due, I don't get stans, if I like something I'll say I like it, if I don't I say I don't. If Cole had released an album I felt trash I would have said I wasn't feeling this 1, but I really enjoyed this, others are too from the numbers coming in it seems, and also from the reactions, from talking to people and seeing and hearing things have seen a lot of positive reactions. Not about trap either, there's even some Future songs I like, I give credit where it's due and criticism where it's due.

J Cole, in my opinion, deserves props here so I give him that on this 1, and hope he keeps elevating going forward.

His whole buzz was initiated by the timely subliminal towards Kanye... why is he resorting to 50 cent lite tactics then ?
It's just bizarre ...you are fine with him going after auto tune mumble rap ...but zilch when it comes to this blatant PR stunt

He's just alternative... and does great in that role... which could be a product of marketing or him
being himself but all his predecessors have done it better and are better skilled than he is.
Early Kanye washes him on production. concepts and emotion...hell even substance

Eminem is a better story teller and more interesting in his first projects but that's all subjective anyway

It's his turn, I get it but we both can attest to your disdain for anything trap or mainstream related
..and this whole clinging to a myth that we need substance back ?

You have underground artists for that .. ( The mIDDLE Passage coming soon!!!)

Did you conveniently forget that Vic Mensa and Kendrick dropped before this album ?
