So like everyone else, I was surprised one day last week when J. Cole dropped a doc and 2 vids with news of a new LP. The doc was straight but it had some good studio sessions musically. The 2 new songs/vids were flames. Everything we love about Cole. I started wondering...is he awoke? Is this the Cole weve been waiting for?
Then I read the 2 new songs weren't on the album. And the wool fell slowly from my eyes.
I downloaded the album this morning, and listened to it from front to back and couldn't have been more disappointed. There isn't a song on the album that's better than false prophets or everybody dies. Best song is Immortal imo. But nothing stands out to me. I felt the same way about his last album, the one everybody seemed to go crazy for. I'm not seeing Cole getting better. I feel musically hes been linear and settling into that Talib Kweli role.
Id give this new album 3 mics.

Why are people comparing the Tribe album to this? 
I've listened to this album 3 times and I think it's solid, it'll grow even more with more listens. I like the sound and the theme, it's not all over the place. There's no single chasing the charts.

after second listen this is a very solid project. I just dont care about folding clothes. this really aint a project u should skim through.The 2 songs he out tho had everybody fooled tho so I understand being underwhelmed

its a great idea and I could see superior artists doing more with that concept.
But again, Cole takes great concepts and utterly shyts the bed on it.

I like maybe three songs off this on first listen album did not grab my attention as strong as FHD did.
I honestly enjoyed False Prophets and Everybody Dies a lot more than this whole album.
so his best album is a 7/10 project?
