...After listening to this, I can't help but feel disappointed.

Not like it's wack...It's just super aiiiight.... Too much singing, mood setting, trying to be musical shyt.....So much more he could've touched on content wise...

Such as??? I'm curious. Because being a concept album about fatherhood, I felt he touched upon a lot.

How about expand on how fatherhood is important to the black culture then? How it's a key cog in the demise of family?

Race relations, toxic music...

So much going on socially and politically... So much deception, so much suppression, so much anger ....so many sheep.


I get it...a concept project for his friends daughters eyes only... but even the singing and stuff left a lot to be desired when it comes to execution.. Change and 4 Your Eyez Only were the stand outs for me on the first listen, everything else was just ehhh...like...you have to listen to them more than once, i'm used to coming out the gate loving J Cole shyt..

I just expected more, and my expectation got me disappointed.

come to find out this is better than, damn near, everything on the project...

The entire is a story..... the narrator is telling his daughter about his life, how he came up, how he met her mother and so forth.... Ville Mentality is when after him meeting his future wife, he became woke in how he's living. If you listen to his daughter on that song, it was after he was killed and how she's upset that her father is no longer here.

I know he's trying to tell a story but the actual music just wasnt executed well imo.

Started off trash, 2nd half of the album saved things

Title song maybe Cole best ever song.

Album is really good on second listen. First listen I wasn't feeling it at all.. but now it's coming together


It's a grower. Guaranteed.

I always have issues with this statement. because if I look hard enough I can find the good in anything so... If I have to keep listening to this to change my opinion how do I know how I truly feel? This album didn't really do it for me but I know if I keep listening something will "grow on me"
