Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
:snoop:This album is only boring to people addicted to synthesizers and Trap 808s.

I have one friend who really likes it.

I might revisit it off the strength of his cosign. But if I remember correctly, Cole barely rapped on this and his singing was wack and the songs were dragged out and the content wasn't anything special.

But I might be misremembering

It's got some nice highs and ends with one of Cole's best songs but I feel like the lows really mar it. I get that he doesn't want features...so why not use uncredited singers more?

I haven't really felt a need to revisit it lately but will soon.

I listened to this album later than everyone (wasn't fukking with music in general) and Cole let me down :francis: I can say this with no hype/lack of hype clouding me.

Nah. I'm quick to post on here about how the game is saturated with trap and trap-esque shyt but Cole just didn't bring it. The album is very drowsy and lethargic, I've used "drowsy" to describe 3 of the 5 Drake albums I heard but I can at least say they aren't lethargic. His performance as an MC was fine but he didn't rap enough, there was a lot of crooning and vibing out.

I also feel like he didn't execute the concept of "my homie's album locked in a safe till my daughter is a teenager" well enough...there were times where he was his boy, and times where he was himself, and there weren't really any transitions to hint that certain songs would switch perspective for a reason.

I do like half the album; Immortal, Neighbors, Folding Clothes, She's Mine Pt. 2, 4 Your Eyes Only. But it's the same gripe I had with Yeezus, for which I also liked half; execution. I see the concept (more so sound for Yeezus) , I heard Kanye/Cole, and they fizzled on the execution. Cole would've probably benefitted from 4 more tracks; False Prophets, ODEGD, and 2 two tracks that help define the switches in personal narrative so that those two as well, as others, fit in.

Let's not prop up this album because of a visual associated with it.

:comeon:

Same thing happened with Humble
