Drake has a borderline classic in Take Care, some say it is but it is arguable and some also say Nothing Was The Same but that can be argued too. IMO, they aren't classics but great albums but I can see why some would see it that way and would feel like they are because of the era they dropped in and the music scene at the time.

Kendrick easily has a classic in GKMC and TPAB is shaping up to be a classic hip hop album if it isn't already. It has aged beautifully and will hold up the test of time due to its flawless production and just the mixing of the album. It sounds unbelievable.

What about J Cole? He has good albums in Born Sinner and Forest Hill Drive but none of those I would consider hip hop classics. None of them have classic records. None of them delivered a moment in hip hop like Take Care did or GKMC and even TPAB. Neither of his best albums were very influential and they didn't vary much from what we've heard from J Cole in the past. Drake and Kendrick's album did and offered a uniqueness to each of their releases. Cole had some good production and was spitting on each of these albums, he has some really nice records on them but I never really care to go back and bump these through and through. I might play a record here or there off each but with GKMC/TPAB or Take Care and even NWTS, you can just put those on and let them rock. I also feel like J Cole gets a pass for this as well. Cole definitely has it in him to deliver that groundbreaking record and we might see that on his next joint but this ain't really a good look for someone who;s regarded as one of the best rappers in the game and of the past decade. I'd be willing to take a bit further and ask, forget albums, what are his classic and BIG records? I can think of verses but no records of his own...

Yeah. Why would you think he's not?

Because he's not. The thing that makes J Cole good is the fact that he comes with a more balanced range of topics in his songs.
He offers a bit of fresh air and balance to the flip side of what's more popular in mainstream Hip Hop.
But J Cole as a rapper is average. The music is real basic.

What sets a great rapper apart from good rappers and or wack rappers is vocals, rhymes, songwriting, creativity, delivery, flow, style etc etc.
While I don't check for his music, J Cole is aight to me cause he adds more of a balance to a pretty 1 sided era of Hip Hop.

Can you name 5 rappers that you'd consider great that debuted after 2008?

Cause I get what you saying and you're absolutely right but I am curious because if thats your criteria, then there is very few great rappers that have come out in the 2000s and I don't know how true that is.

To be honest with you, I really can't.
