I remember a real long time ago before his 1st album dropped when asked about Jay-Z, he stated he appreciate that he was someone that rarely ever use social media, and doesn't try to be all out there, and create an aura about himself to where each album feels like a special event and its what he want to mold himself to be. Out of all things that Jay-Z mentored J. Cole about is how to roll out.

Yep.

Jay-Z and Nas are the masters of album roll outs. They let the MUSIC speak for itself. Jay was always a little more “commercial” than Nas but still, Jay knows how to build hype for a project.

Cole, Kendrick, and even Drake all have great album rollouts

he's making rappers who get all these crazy, high priced features looks silly. esp when he outsells them all combined. i also appreciate brehs way of releasing albums. i aint feelin a 3 to 4 month rollout.

No he's not. I don't understand why people try to demean features in the name of propping up Cole's process.

Features are a seminal part of rap and its one thing that is Uniquely rap.

I read a breakdown of the album’s theme on reddit from a fan who was at the event Monday.

If it goes down anything the way its described then this will be Cole’s The Cool

The fact he wrote the majority of this between dropping that album and actually touring that album gives me hope that the reception for 4YEO lit a fire under him, I remember damn near everyone was calling it trash and boring, myself included and I’m one of those who always thought the sleep/boring jokes were corny and exaggerated.

yeah the sleep boring jokes dont make sense to me but that last effort was actually boring as shyt.. I'm forever a cole stan for the come up, warm up and FNL but his album efforts have been a bit of a let down apart from born sinner.


i think Cole has ended up like Krit... both had dope mixtape runs, featuring heavy sampling basically every track. come album time the samples are gone and the quality suffers.
i went back and listened to all Kritz tapes the other week.. straight flames, but like Cole, his albums are kinda weak imo

who cares. literally nobody on earth listened to his last album or even knows what was that called. his career ended after Forrest Hills Drive, the last album was a gigantic flop and not 1 listenable song off it


he doesn't have 1 classic album or anything close to it. yea he can rap when he wants to but overall his music and albums are trash
