how you know he wrote it during that time??

yeah the sleep boring jokes dont make sense to me but that last effort was actually boring as shyt.. I'm forever a cole stan for the come up, warm up and FNL but his album efforts have been a bit of a let down apart from born sinner.

i think Cole has ended up like Krit... both had dope mixtape runs, featuring heavy sampling basically every track. come album time the samples are gone and the quality suffers.
i went back and listened to all Kritz tapes the other week.. straight flames, but like Cole, his albums are kinda weak imo:yeshrug:
This is why most albums suck now, samples cost way to expensive nowadays

Hopefully he uses other producers. While he definitely has produced some heat (Hiiipower), too much of his production gets stale

relistening to FNL, Born Sinner, and 4YEO today

to me FHD and 4YEO are classics
Born Sinner is close but too many missteps
his debut suffered from the label and leaks

The name Edward, at least for me is always associated with a king. There have been MANY "king edwards" in the past. If you Google the name "edward" the first thing you will see is a picture of a king. If you start to Google "king e" it will 100% autofill edward.

My theory then is that the King depicted on the album, King Overdose, is named Edward. King (overdose) Edward is the current ruller in hip-hop, take a look around the rap game. Besides our mid-age rulers (Cole, Kenny, Drake, Sean, Joey) all the young rappers, are the Kids, are On Drugs. Lil xan jumps to mind as the name I've heard but you all can fill in the blank with any new age kid rapper and a large part of what they rap about and what they do is drugs(look at lil peep).

Let me make a quick point here on the King Edward thing. A lot of people have been wondering why "kiLL edward" is typed out the way it is with the 2 "L"s. That's because those letters are actually "ng"

King Edward is loving the way rap is going right now and doesn't want that to change, this is his element. See lyrics of Tidal Wave: "can we vibe just a little" after all the "yeah"s to start he wants to just keep vibing like that, like a lot of that low mumble rap meant for vibing while you're on drugs. Though it's J Cole rapping for "kiLL edward" the alter-ego he is portraying is the current drug loving ruler of rap. He will rap dark, deep, slow as this character with a positive view of drugs. On the songs he features on, J Cole will go back and forth with him trying to fix the rap game, whereas edward will try to convince Cole to join drug rap, again see Tidal Wave Lyrics: "I've been wantin' you since we were little. Now we're full grown and you here. Do you have time just a little? I can make it worth your while, Ain't you diggin' me a little?"

The focal point of this album is something that Cole has already told us and it's to "kill edward". Cole will be looking to "motivate" this generation of young people, both rappers and regular people to make better choices in life. Cole mentioned about this album that it felt like god was writing through him, which is how he wrote it so fast. Cole is the saviour and he's here's to prove it. To throw out a corny line, this may not be the album the rap game wants, but it's going to be the album it needs.

The last track on the album is 1985(INTRO TO THE FALL OFF). Which obviously states that once this album is done, the fall off starts. That's the fall off of drug rap, the fall off of the Xanax movement, the fall off of everything not right about rap and the younger generation right now. Will Cole give us an album or something titled "The Fall Off"? Probably.. possibly. But that doesn't really matter, because the fall off starts as soon as we finish the album and king edward is dead.
